'I wasn’t aware’ — husband of Anambra woman accused of abusing daughters speaks up.

The husband of Anulika Onyeanusia, the 36-year-old woman arrested in Anambra state for allegedly sexually abusing her daughters, has narrated how he discovered what had happened.

Speaking about the incident in a viral clip, the man named Ikechukwu said he only learnt about the video after a friend called him and showed it to him.

He said he had returned from church on Thursday evening when his friend contacted him and asked him to come over.

“I came back from church. In the morning, I get ready, I go to my business and in the evening I come back. So I don’t know that something like this was happening,” he said.

“I only got to know when a friend of mine called me that I should come. I went to him and he opened his phone and showed me a video.

“I saw the video. It was my wife and I saw my daughter. She was molesting the child. I got kind of confused. What is this? What is happening? Could this be true?”

Ikechukwu said he wanted to confront his wife immediately, but his friend advised him to remain calm.

“I said, okay, but let me go and ask her. I came to her and asked her, ‘What exactly is this that I saw on the internet?’ She said no, that it was not true. I said, how can you convince me that it is not true? She said I shouldn’t believe anything like that. She said it was AI,” the man added.

He said he later went to the police station, where his wife admitted that the video was real.

According to him, the divisional police officer (DPO) asked his wife in his presence if he knew about what was happening with their two daughters.

“I said no, I don’t know. He also asked, ‘Did your husband know about this?’ and she said no, that I didn’t know anything about this,” he said.

“I asked her, ‘did you do this?’ and she said yes.

“I got weak. I got tired. How come this kind of thing can happen? How can you do this kind of thing?”

Ikechukwu said he was deeply disappointed by his wife’s actions, adding that he never believed she could do such a thing.

“I want the public to know that this thing that happened, I am totally disappointed in my wife. I never believed she was going to do this kind of thing,” he said.

JAMB takes over HND admissions as FG moves to curb irregularities.

2026 UTME: JAMB releases Monday exam results
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will take over the processing of all Higher National Diploma admissions in polytechnics, allied institutions and colleges of nursing sciences and health technology from the current academic session.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) disclosed the development in a circular dated September 9, 2026, signed by its Executive Secretary, Prof Idris Bugaje, and addressed to rectors and provosts of the affected institutions.

The directive followed a meeting between the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and key stakeholders, including JAMB, the National Youth Service Corps, NBTE and the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to Bugaje, the centralised admission process is intended to curb illegal and compromised admissions and prevent problems that could affect students’ mobilisation for the NYSC after completing their HND programmes.

The circular stated, “All HND admissions in all institutions shall, from this session, be taken over by JAMB to provide a centralised process and avoid illegal and compromised admissions, jeopardising students’ mobilisation for NYSC after HND. The FME shall issue a statement on this next week with further details.”

JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the board would comply with the directive.

“It’s a directive from above and ours is to comply to ensure that the good intentions of the government are achieved,” he said.

The NBTE said it would immediately develop HND Admission Guidelines and submit them to JAMB to guide the digital admission platform. The guidelines will include the waiting period for National Diploma holders before proceeding to HND and exemptions for certain ND health-related programmes.

The new arrangement also affects part-time admissions. With part-time ND admissions now under JAMB, the proportion of part-time students has been capped at 50 per cent of each institution’s approved full-time quota.

The NBTE further reaffirmed its September 7 directive prohibiting the presentation of candidates with NCE/HND combinations for NYSC mobilisation. Under the new arrangement, NCE holders seeking HND admission must obtain a valid ND first, with only the ND and HND certificates recognised for NYSC mobilisation in such cases.

The board said the centralised system would ensure that admissions are granted only into accredited programmes and within approved carrying capacities. It also warned that institutions that breach the directive could face regulatory sanctions, including withdrawal of their operational licences.

Tukur: Tinubu, Makinde, Kukah, PDP mourn.

President Bola Tinubu has described the death of former governor of the old Gongola State, Bamanga Tukur, as the end of a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s political and economic history.

Tukur, the Tafidan Adamawa and elder statesman, died on Saturday at the age of 90.

In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the deceased left an enduring imprint across public administration, politics, industry, business and continental economic development.

The president particularly recalled Tukur’s role in transforming Nigeria’s maritime sector during his tenure as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority between 1975 and 1982.

His public service career later took him into frontline politics, culminating in his election as governor of the old Gongola State in 1983, which comprised present-day Adamawa and Taraba states.

Tukur subsequently moved into the private sector, where he chaired BHI Holdings and the DADDO Group of Companies, with interests spanning manufacturing, agriculture, logistics and trading.

He also served as Federal Minister of Industries between 1993 and 1995 under the military administration of General Sani Abacha.

Beyond Nigeria, Tukur emerged as a prominent voice for Africa’s economic integration, serving as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group.

In those roles, he championed intra-African trade, private sector-led growth and sustainable development.

His political career also took him to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, where he served as National Chairman from March 2012 to January 2014.

Tinubu said Tukur made significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development during his tenure as PDP chairman through his emphasis on party discipline and consensus building.

The president extended his condolences to the Tukur family, the Fombina Emirate of Adamawa, the Adamawa State Government and people, as well as the political and business communities in Nigeria and across Africa.

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated that Tukur was a towering figure, who made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s political, economic and democratic development.

Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Presidential Candidate, Seyi Makinde, has expressed sadness over the death of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Ogun police track stolen car to Ifo hotel, arrest suspect
The Ogun State Police Command has recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Camry at a hotel in Ifo, less than eight hours after it was reported stolen.

The vehicle, belonging to an Indian national based at the Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos, was allegedly stolen on Wednesday by his driver, Waidi Olaide Kolawale, who was employed two days earlier.

Kolawale had reportedly told his employer that he was taking the car to a vulcaniser to fix a tyre but absconded with it.

Following the report, the car was electronically tracked to the Ifo area and the information was relayed to the DPO, Ifo Division, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, who deployed surveillance and anti-robbery operatives.

The operatives tracked the vehicle through several locations before locating it at a hotel in Ifo at about 8:30 p.m.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the driver, Kolawale, fled on sighting the operatives, while one suspect, Monday Adetunji, was arrested at the scene.

Babaseyi stated that preliminary investigation showed the suspects had allegedly approached a mechanic to remove the vehicle’s catalytic converter, but the mechanic declined.

“The vehicle has been secured, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the PPRO added.

The spokesperson said the swift recovery demonstrates the Command’s technology-driven and intelligence-led approach to policing.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, as commending the Ifo operatives for their swift response and urging vehicle owners to install reliable trackers and anti-theft devices.

He also advised the public to conduct due diligence before entrusting vehicles to drivers and urged hoteliers to maintain accurate guest records and report suspicious activities through the Gateway Shield toll-free line.

Abbas Demands Jail for Drug Dealers and Help for Addicts, Warns Drug Abuse Fuels Insecurity

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has called for tougher action against drug dealers while urging authorities not to abandon people struggling with addiction.

Abbas made the call in Kaduna at the conclusion of a three-day sensitisation programme on drug abuse and domestic violence, organised in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

He said drug pushers must face the full weight of the law, while people trapped in addiction need care, treatment and support to help them recover. According to him, prevention must begin with information and involve parents, schools and communities.

The Speaker also linked the fight against drug abuse to the battle against insecurity, noting that proceeds from drug trafficking can provide criminals with funds for weapons and recruitment. He urged communities to reject silence around addiction and domestic violence.

Abbas described domestic violence as abuse rather than discipline or culture and pledged to strengthen laws, support enforcement and treatment, and use parliamentary oversight to demand results in the fight against drug abuse and violence.

Fayemi: Public office too serious to be left to people with no fear of God

Kayode Fayemi, former Ekiti governor, says public office is “too serious” to be entrusted to people who have no fear of God.

Fayemi spoke on Saturday at the plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at Our Lady and St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, Oke-Gada, Ede, Osun state.

The former governor urged Nigerian Catholics not to withdraw from politics, saying doing so would create room for “unprincipled opportunists” to take control of the country.
