Daily sanction screening update | 8 September

The United Kingdom added six names to the UK Sanctions List at 12:34 UTC today

What this means for compliance teams:

• Load the six entries today with the UK Unique IDs (GHR0198 to GHR0202, CTI0084) and carry the Hebrew-script names as aliases so transliteration variants match.
• Screen on dates of birth and addresses where no identity number exists.
• Treat Al-Qard Al-Hasan as a UK freeze as well as an OFAC one.
• Record the Suissa entry with its gap.

Six new UK names, three echoes kept out, and one entry whose grounds are not yet on the record. Check who designated, and read what they actually published.

Youverify monitors 85 sources across 76 publishers in 57 countries every morning, including a dedicated central bank circular designation watch across Africa and the Gulf, and re-acquires the day’s edition when a primary authority moves after the morning capture.

Marcus’s story highlights a common fraud challenge: fraudsters can bypass security when the right tools aren’t in place to detect and stop them.

When activity suddenly appears from an unexpected location, teams need the right signals to understand what is happening, investigate quickly, and verify that the person behind the activity is genuine.

With Youverify, financial institutions can connect risk signals, investigate suspicious activity, and verify the person behind the transaction in real time.

OFAC has cut a Turkish investment bank and its two Istanbul subsidiaries out of the dollar system for giving Iran correspondent banking access.

OFAC also issued Iran General Licence CC, authorizing the wind-down of transactions with the three Golden Global parties through 12:01 a.m.

What this means for compliance teams:

• Load the three Golden Global parties today and key BIC GOGYTRIS into payment filters and correspondent-banking controls.
• Treat General License CC as a wind-down window, not a continuation: only close-out transactions are authorized.
• Read Treasury’s warning as directed at correspondent banks.
• Re-key Abubakar Swalleh’s record with the Isaac Mupeta alias and Zambia Z15105123.

Youverify checks 80+ sources across 76 publishers in 57 countries every morning, including a dedicated central bank circular designation watch, and adjudicate every flagged change against its primary source before it reaches your queue.

Manual onboarding checks can turn a ready-to-work candidate into a bottleneck.

For the logistics company, every rider needs to be properly verified before they can move from candidate to active rider. But when identity and guarantor checks depend on manual processes, onboarding can slow down while operations keep moving.

With Youverify Cowork, businesses can automate identity and onboarding checks, giving you the evidence needed for defensible onboarding decisions.

Weekly compliance update | September 2026

Here is the week in fraud and AML compliance.

🟠 ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS

* OFSI fined Citibank, N.A. London Branch £4.7 million for 970 payments that breached Russia and Global Anti-Corruption Regulations.
* FinCEN assessed UBS Financial Services a USD 125 million penalty for failing to monitor more than 50,000 foreign currency wires.
* FINTRAC penalised two Canadian gaming corporations for failing to file suspicious transaction reports.
* The UK Gambling Commission suspended BresBet and Bet St George licences.

🔴 SANCTIONS SPOTLIGHT

* OFAC designated Raúl Castro’s grandson and five Cuban state entities on 3 September.
* Operation Economic Outcast extended into Iran’s UAE banking access.
* OFAC amended eight Venezuela General Licences on 27 August.

🟢 TRENDS

* MAS published draft legislation for Singapore’s stablecoin regime.
* FinCEN identified almost USD 13 billion in suspected digital-asset flows tied to overseas scam centres.

Why it matters: two record penalties reinforce the same lesson: regulators are pricing unresolved weaknesses, not just new violations.

Every compliance check can be working exactly as intended and your organisation can still miss the risk.

The problem often isn’t the individual systems. It’s what happens when the information they generate remains disconnected.

When compliance teams have to move between platforms, reconcile data manually, and piece together customer and business information, important connections can be missed. What should be a straightforward compliance decision can become a time-consuming investigation.

In our latest article, we explore what a day in the life of a compliance team using fragmented tools looks like, the hidden costs that follow, and how a more unified approach can help teams make decisions with greater context.

A transaction limit increase shouldn’t have to mean a trip to the bank.

For Aminata, the need was simple: she had to make a ₣5 million school-fee payment. But for the bank, approving that request required more than simply increasing a limit.

It needed to:
✓ Validate her identity
✓ Confirm she was really the person making the request
✓ Complete the necessary KYC checks
✓ Make a risk-informed decision

Using Youverify’s liveness detection and identity verification, financial institutions can complete these checks digitally without putting the customer through an unnecessary branch visit.

A customer matching a name on a database doesn’t automatically mean you’ve verified who they are.

True identity verification requires more than a name. It means validating the person behind the information and establishing that the identity is genuine, consistent, and trustworthy.

With Youverify Cowork, compliance teams can move beyond basic name matching to verify customer identity using real, verifiable data giving them greater confidence before making critical compliance decisions.

Daily sanction screening update | 31 August 2026

OFAC has designated two facilitators of Iran’s shadow banking network under Operation Economic Outcast, targeting Tehran’s access to Gulf correspondent banking.

What this means for compliance teams:

• Screen and block both parties now, and apply the OFAC 50 percent rule to any entities they own.
• Trace the Bank Melli Dubai and Opal exchange-house links across your correspondent.
• Assess Gulf correspondent exposure against the Banque Misr UAE proposal.
• Watch secondary sanctions risk.

Youverify checks 80+ sources across 76 publishers in 57 countries every morning, including a dedicated central bank circular designation watch, and reads every flagged change against its primary source.

Amaka’s story is a reminder that a seamless customer experience and strong compliance do not have to compete.

For banks, onboarding a customer means more than opening an account. Identity verification, KYC, AML screening, and other checks must happen accurately, efficiently, and with enough visibility for compliance teams to make defensible decisions.

The challenge is doing all of this without turning onboarding into a maze of disconnected checks and frustrating delays.

With Youverify, banks can streamline verification and compliance workflows in one place, helping teams make faster, informed decisions while creating smoother customer journeys.
