As school resumes for another academic year, let's remember that over 18 million children are still out of school. Behind this statistic is a child with a dream, a curious mind, and a future waiting to be unlocked.

This year, through Access2School, we are supporting 200 children in low-income communities across Lagos and Ogun with essential school supplies, including exercise books, uniforms, socks, and other learning materials.

Because school resumption should not be a privilege. Every child deserves a chance to learn.

Leadership is more than titles, intentions, or impressive qualities. It is measured by the results we create and the impact our actions have on people and communities.

For organisations and changemakers, true leadership means turning ideas into action, solving real problems, and delivering outcomes that improve lives.

In development work, the real question is not simply, "What did we plan?" But what changed because we acted?

Impact is the true measure of leadership.

ATLAS Initiative is strengthening its partnership with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)to advance the Access2School Project in Ogun State.

The partnership will focus on identifying barriers that keep children out of school, strengthening community engagement, and supporting efforts to help more children access and remain in school.

As part of the collaboration, ATLAS Initiative and Ogun SUBEB are exploring opportunities to strengthen the capacity of community stakeholders, including School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), to play a more active role in promoting education within their communities.

Through stronger partnerships and community-driven action, we are working towards a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Together, we are building stronger pathways from communities to classrooms.

Nigeria’s food security challenge continues to demand urgent and sustainable solutions. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) projected that 34.7 million Nigerians could face acute food insecurity during the 2026 lean season without timely and coordinated interventions. Climate shocks, rising costs, and other challenges persistently impact agricultural productivity and food availability.

This is why investing in farmers—especially women farmers—is critical to building a more productive, resilient and food-secure future.

Through the SEED Project, ATLAS Initiative is bringing practical knowledge closer to women farmers through a Smart Farming Practical Demonstration and Training. We believe that empowering women farmers with practical skills, knowledge, and the right tools is an important step towards strengthening food security in Nigeria.

This project is financed with the contribution of the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development.

Behind every child who is out of school is a story. Behind that story is often a dream that has not disappeared. It is simply waiting for an opportunity.

A child may dream of becoming a doctor, a teacher, an engineer, an artist, or simply growing up with the chance to build a better life.

But dreams need opportunities.

ATLAS Initiative recently engaged six Local Government School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and other basic education stakeholders in Lagos State as part of preparations for this year’s Access2School Project.

The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, align efforts, and better understand the barriers keeping children out of school.

Through Access2School, ATLAS Initiative works with families, communities, schools, education authorities, and partners to identify out-of-school children and support their safe return to learning.

As we prepare for the next phase, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity not only to return to school but also to learn and thrive.

Together, we can bring more children back to school and help them stay there.

Lasting social change requires more than identifying what is broken. It requires building better alternatives.

For organisations and changemakers, this means creating innovative solutions, testing new approaches, and developing systems that respond to the realities of the communities we serve.

The goal is not simply to criticise existing systems, but to demonstrate that better ways are possible.

Real change begins when we stop asking, “What is wrong?” and start asking, “What can we build differently?”
