Nigeria at 66: A Reflection on the Nigeria We Are Building🇳🇬
Today, we celebrate Nigeria, her rich diversity, her resilience, her vibrant people and the remarkable journey that has brought us to 66 years of independence.
For 66 years, Nigeria has continued to evolve, shaped by the strength, creativity and determination of her people. From our diverse cultures and traditions to the talents of our young people, the courage of our women, the resilience of our communities and the countless Nigerians contributing to the growth of the nation in different ways, there is much to celebrate about the Nigeria we call home.
At Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI), we are particularly reminded that a nation’s progress is ultimately reflected in the lives of its people. The Nigeria we celebrate is one where every child deserves protection and the opportunity to thrive, where women can participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives and communities, where persons with disabilities are seen, heard and included, and where communities have the support and resilience to build better futures.
As we celebrate, we also reflect. Independence gives us not only a history to honour, but a future to shape. The journey ahead may come with challenges, but it also presents opportunities to strengthen our institutions, deepen inclusion, protect the vulnerable, amplify citizens’ voices and build communities where everyone can live with dignity and hope.
As an organisation committed to gender justice, child protection, civic participation, inclusion and community resilience, CPI remains committed to playing its part in building the Nigeria we all deserve.
Today, we celebrate how far we have come, appreciate the people who continue to make Nigeria what she is, and look forward with hope to all that we can build together.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria 🇳🇬

The conversation around the Ganaja Charter of Demands took to the airwaves on Monday as Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI) hosted another edition of its radio programme on Radio Kogi 94.1 FM, Lokoja.
The session brought together key voices to discuss the progress of the Charter, government commitments and what needs to happen to move the demands of the Ganaja community from advocacy to action.
Our guests were the Hon. Commissioner, Kogi State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Representative of Ajaokuta Constituency, Hon. Abanika Taiye, Chairperson, Working Group on Construction of Primary Healthcare Centre, Blessed Egbunu, Chairperson, Working Group on Construction of IDP Camp, Dr. Achor Joy Achile, and Executive Director, CPI, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun.
The conversation touched on some of the community's priority concerns, including the need for an improved IDP facility, access to potable water and better healthcare infrastructure. The guests also discussed the commitments made during previous advocacy engagements and the steps required to sustain follow-up and accountability.
With community members and listeners also joining the conversation, the session reinforced the importance of keeping the needs of Ganaja on the agenda and ensuring that advocacy continues beyond the point of engagement.
For CPI and the Ganaja community, the goal remains clear, turning demands into action and commitments into results.

For residents of Ganaja community, flooding is more than just a rainy-season inconvenience. It affects movement, livelihoods, homes and access to essential services.
But the story of Ganaja is not only about the challenges. It is also about a community that is speaking up, organising and taking steps to find solutions.
Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI), alongside representatives of Ganaja Community and members of the Working Groups on the five priority demands, took that conversation to the Kogi State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Thursday, 27th August 2026.
The visit was aimed at keeping the community’s priorities on the table, strengthening engagement with relevant government stakeholders, and exploring practical ways to move the Ganaja Charter of Demand forward.
The team met with the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, who also represents the Ajaokuta constituency. This made the engagement particularly significant, as the advocacy team sought not only his support as a government stakeholder, but also his voice as a representative of the constituency where Ganaja is located.
The team presented the Ganaja Charter of Demand, shared the progress recorded so far, and discussed some of the community’s most pressing needs, including improved infrastructure, emergency facilities and access to essential services.
For us, advocacy is not just about presenting demands and walking away. It is about building the right conversations, engaging the people and institutions that can make a difference, following up on progress, and ensuring that community voices remain part of decisions that affect their lives.
Ganaja has spoken. The work now is to keep the conversation moving and turn those priorities into tangible outcomes.

CPI CONGRATULATES RADIO KOGI AND KOGI STATE AT 35
Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI) warmly congratulates the Management and Staff of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kogi) on the occasion of its 35th Anniversary, as Kogi State also marks 35 years since its creation.
Thirty-five years of statehood is a significant milestone. It is an opportunity to celebrate Kogi State’s journey, reflect on its history and the contributions of its people, and look ahead to the work required to build a more inclusive, prosperous and resilient State.
For 35 years, Radio Kogi has been an important part of that journey. Through its programmes and broadcasts, the station has informed, educated and entertained generations of Kogites, while providing a platform for public discourse and connecting communities across the State.
As an organisation working to promote gender justice, child protection, civic participation and inclusive development, CPI recognises the important role of the media in strengthening democracy and ensuring that citizens have access to information and platforms through which their voices can be heard.
We particularly recognise the leadership of the Director-General of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Hajia Nana Hawa Yusuf, and the collective efforts of the Management and Staff in sustaining the Corporation and navigating the changing demands of public-interest broadcasting.
The 35th anniversary is also a moment to reflect on the role Radio Kogi can continue to play in Kogi State’s development. A strong public broadcaster can help bridge information gaps, amplify the concerns of communities, promote civic awareness and create constructive spaces for dialogue between citizens and institutions.
Similarly, as Kogi State marks 35 years, CPI celebrates the resilience, diversity and enormous potential of its people. The State’s strategic location, human resources, agricultural potential and natural resources provide significant opportunities for sustainable development.
At the same time, anniversaries are valuable moments for honest reflection. Issues around access to quality healthcare and education, potable water, road infrastructure, flood resilience, livelihoods, youth opportunities, security and inclusive participation remain important to the everyday experiences of many citizens. These challenges remind all stakeholders of the need to continually strengthen efforts towards people-centred development.
CPI therefore joins other citizens, organisations and institutions in celebrating this milestone while looking forward to a future where every Kogite can enjoy greater access to essential services, opportunities and a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives.
We believe that government, civil society, the media, communities, the private sector and citizens all have important roles to play in shaping this future.
As Radio Kogi begins another chapter, we encourage the Corporation to continue upholding professionalism, credible information, inclusive programming and responsible public-interest broadcasting.
CPI wishes the Management and Staff of Radio Kogi a happy 35th anniversary and congratulates the people of Kogi State on 35 years of statehood.
May the years ahead bring greater opportunities, inclusive development and improved well-being for the people of Kogi State.
Happy 35th Anniversary, Radio Kogi.
Happy 35th Anniversary, Kogi State.

🚨 URGENT APPEAL: HELP A FAMILY OF FOUR RESTORE THEIR HOME AFTER DEVASTATING RAINSTORM
A family of four in Lokoja, Kogi State, is urgently in need of support after a heavy rainstorm destroyed the roof of their home, leaving them homeless and exposed to severe living conditions.
Mr Olusegun Femi Taiwo, a photographer and father of two, was away at work on 27 April, 2026, when his wife called to inform him that a heavy downpour accompanied by a violent storm had completely removed the roof of their house and flooded the building.
With nowhere else to go, the family was forced to spend three days and three nights under a tree before a good Samaritan offered them temporary shelter in an uncompleted building.
However, their current living conditions remain extremely unsafe. The building has a roof but no windows or doors, while the floor is covered with debris. The family has reportedly encountered several snakes since relocating there. Their only mattress was also washed away by the rainstorm, leaving them to sleep on the bare floor and depend on lanterns for light.
The situation has become even more difficult as Mr Taiwo struggles to sustain his photography business, meet his family’s daily needs and repay existing loans. His two children have also been forced out of school, while providing food for the family has become a major challenge.
This family needs urgent help to secure safe and decent shelter and rebuild their lives.
We are therefore appealing to well-meaning individuals, philanthropists, corporate organisations, humanitarian organisations, community leaders and government agencies, to come to the aid of this family.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Mr Taiwo’s immediate and most urgent need is to restore the roof of his home so that his family can return to a safe and habitable environment.
According to him, the estimated cost of roofing the building again is ₦2.5 million.
We are therefore appealing to well-meaning Nigerians, philanthropists, corporate organisations, humanitarian organisations, community leaders and compassionate individuals to support this family in raising the funds needed to restore their home.
Target: ₦2,500,000
No amount is too small. Whether you are able to contribute financially or connect the family to an individual or organisation that can provide substantial support, your intervention could help this family regain a safe roof over their heads.
Account Name: Olusegun Femi Taiwo

We believe that with the support of compassionate Nigerians, this family can rebuild what the rainstorm took away from them.
Please help us put a roof over this family’s heads again.
