Today, we remember that behind every crisis is a person.
A child who needs to feel safe.
A family trying to start again.
A health worker showing up despite the risks.
A volunteer helping a neighbour.
A humanitarian who chooses to keep serving, even when the work is difficult.
This year’s World Humanitarian Day theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” speaks to something we see every day: communities are not just people waiting to be helped. They are often the first to respond, the ones who know what their people need, and the ones who keep going long after the cameras are gone.
But they should not have to do it alone.
We must protect humanitarian and health workers. We must protect civilians. We must speak against attacks on those who are simply trying to save lives and help people. And we must support local people and organisations who are already doing the work in their own communities.
At Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII), we believe that sometimes, humanitarian action is simply being there — listening, caring, protecting and helping someone find hope again.
Today, we celebrate everyone who continues to .
And to those working quietly, often without recognition: we see you. We appreciate you. Keep going. ❤️
Happy World Humanitarian Day 2026.

A Story of Dignity and Hope - Menstrual Hygiene Day
For years, 14-year-old Amina from a conflict-affected community in Northeast Nigeria struggled silently every month during her menstrual cycle. Without access to sanitary materials or proper information about menstrual health, she often missed school and avoided social activities out of fear and embarrassment.
Everything began to change when Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII) reached her community through its child protection and girls’ empowerment interventions. Through hygiene awareness sessions, dignity kit distribution, and safe spaces for adolescent girls, Amina learned about menstrual hygiene management, personal care, and the importance of confidence and self-worth.
Today, Amina no longer stays home during her period. She attends school regularly, participates actively in class, and now encourages other girls in her community to speak openly about menstrual health without shame or fear.
Amina’s story reminds us that access to menstrual hygiene is more than a health issue. It is about dignity, education, protection, and empowerment for every girl child.
On this Menstrual Hygiene Day, we reaffirm the need to break the silence around menstruation and ensure that every girl can manage her period safely and with dignity, without fear, shame, or discrimination.
No girl should miss school, feel excluded, or be placed at risk because of menstruation. Together, we can promote awareness, support access to menstrual hygiene resources, and create safe environments where girls and women can thrive.
Menstrual health is a right, not a privilege.

Today, on Children’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dreams, laughter, and limitless potential of every child.
But even as we celebrate, our hearts remain with the many children in Nigeria who are missing, abducted, displaced, or living in captivity due to conflict, violence, trafficking, and insecurity. No child should grow up in fear. No child should be denied safety, education, love, and freedom.
At Safeguarding Children Initiative, we believe every child deserves:
Protection from harm
A safe home and community
Access to education
Freedom to dream and thrive
A voice that is heard and valued
This Children’s Day, let us move beyond celebration into action. Let us speak up for vulnerable children, strengthen safeguarding systems, support affected families, and refuse to stay silent while children suffer.
Every missing child matters.
Every vulnerable child matters.
Every child deserves to come home safe.
Together, we can build a Nigeria where children are protected, valued, and free to be children.
Happy Children’s Day to every child especially those waiting to be reunited with safety, hope, and love. 💙

Sometimes, society teaches boys to “man up” before teaching them how to heal, express themselves, or even understand who they are.
Today, on the International Day of the Boy Child, we are reminded that boys are not just future men. They are children who need love, guidance, affirmation, mentorship, emotional safety, and a sense of purpose.
The 2026 theme, “Flourish and Thrive: Investing in Boys for Stronger Families and Communities,” could not be more timely.
Behind every confident, responsible, and compassionate man is often a boy who was seen, heard, supported, and intentionally raised.
This year’s focus on:
🔹 Raising Boys of Value and Purpose
🔹 Boys for Integrity
🔹 Breaking the Silence: Boys and Mental Health
🔹 Raising Whole Boys: Identity, Voice, and Responsibility
…speaks to something deeply important: we must raise whole boys, not emotionally abandoned boys hiding behind strength.
Boys need to know that integrity matters.
That kindness is strength.
That vulnerability is not weakness.
That asking for help is courageous.
That their voices matter too.
If we want safer communities, healthier families, and better leaders tomorrow, then we must invest intentionally in the boys we are raising today.
May we become the kind of society that does not only correct boys, but also nurtures them.
Not only instructs them, but listens to them.
Not only expects from them, but pours into them.
Happy International Day of the Boy Child.
