Chapter 19

“Bro what do you mean?” Tony asked him devastated, he felt like he didn't hear him well.

“Bro,I'm Sorry, but you've to leave here, you can't stay with me anylonger, just tonight, from tomorrow morning get your bags ready and find somewhere else to stay,you're now on your own.” Alex concluded and went and sat on the bed.

“Bro, what do you mean?” Tony asked getting up from the couch. “Bro you can't do this to your blood, bro where do you want me to go stay?” He asked almost crying.

“That is none of my business, it's none of my business, i've brought you here gave you a Job, now find your way around, I wouldn't find you a bride,help you pay her dowry and you still expect me to show you how to have intimacy with her, it doesn't happen that way”

“But Alex, why are you doing this to me,is it because i corrected this guys about what they were doing wrong, or was it because i convince Gloria to turn a new leaf?” Tony asked him.

“That you made anyone turn a new leaf, that is none of my problem, but i've told you mine, first tomorrow morning, you're leaving here, find somewhere else to be statying, I can't continue to be accommodating you, you're very useless to me” Alex spoke.

“Bro, What have come over you,do you realize that I'm your brother? And you're trying to throw me out from your abode, because i corrected people who were following the wrong path.”

Alex remained silent, he didn't say any words again to Tony.

Tony tired of his silence left the bedroom and went outside and sat down.

He sat down sobbing silently, he wondered what came over his brother, was this the surprise Philip told him about, he asked himself. He wept quietly.

He felt like his world was coming to an end, He came to Onitsha with the hopes of getting a job his brother found for him, his brother was to accommodate him until he becomes stable enough to pay his own rent.

He was just a month in Onitsha, haven received one month salary, he wasn't stable to pay his own rent yet, he didn't know enough people or anyone he could go squat with, he contemplated about it over and over.Nobody came on his mind, he thought of leaving Onitsha and going back to Asaba and to continue living with Pious.

He was sad, tears cascaded from his eyes freely, he thought about what he has called Philip and Oge to discuss, Oge had chosen to turn a new leaf while Philip had refused to. Instead he came with a knife to threaten him and promised he was going to hear more from him through his brother Alex.

Tony sat alone outside through out the night,he couldn't sleep, he was awake, contemplating and regretting his actions, tears cascaded freely, at some point he wished he never intervened in lives of Gloria, Oge and Philip. He wished he had just minded his own business and let them be, but his mind would judge him if he never corrected them from their wrong, especially since he knew that the path they were following was the same path that left him an university graduate with degree and no real value.

He was outside, weeping seriously that he didn't know when the day break, by the time he got to realize,when he checked his phone it was already 6:30 am in the morning,.

He got up from where he was sitting and started walking inside. When he got inside the room, he was astonished to met his luggages packed for him and left on the centre table in the sitting room area. Tony couldn't believe his eyes. He checked to look for his brother, he saw him coming out from the bathroom with towel around him, he had just finished taking his bath.

“Alex,what's this? So you brought out my luggages for me; Why?” Tony asked him, immediately he saw him walking out from the bathroom.

Alex didn't say a word,he ignored him and went to the wardrobe to pick the clothes he was going to be wearing for the day.

Tony was infuriated by the silence, he felt like fighting with him, but that would escalate things, so he decided to handle things maturly and amicably.

“Alex, what is it? Why did you pack my luggages and brought it out here for me? What is the matter senior brother?” He asked him in a mild friendly tone.

“Didn't I tell you,that last night was going to be the last night you will be spending here, wait didn't I tell you?” Tony asked keeping the trouser he wanted to put on, on the bed.

“So bro, you're being serious, I thought it was all a play,so you actually wanted to drive me away from your house?” Tony asked surprised,he couldn't believe the question his brother asked him.

“Oh, you thought I was joking?, you thought I was kidding you?, see Tony in less than ten minutes go in there and take your bath get yourself ready and be leaving this place with your bags, don't allow me to finish before you, because i will be throwing your bags outside. So you better leave here quietly and remember not to ever come back to this house.”

Tony didn't know all this while, that Alex was serious, he thought Alex was saying he was going to throw him out from the house, just to scare him, but he came to realise that he was actually serious about it,with the tone he spoke and his facial expression, Tony knew he was cooked.

“But Alex what came over you?, Why is your heart hardened towards me?, have you forgotten we are brother’s from the same mother and father,why do you want to do this to me?” Tony asked him almost crying.

Alex looked away and began putting on his clothes, Tony stood transfixed he thought of what to do, how to go about, Alex was serious about driving him out from his house, everything was dawn on him, he knew nobody he would go and be with,The only option on his mind was to go back to Asaba and continue living with Pious.

“But Alex was it because i corrected Gloria that you're throwing him out from the house? I was trying to help that girl, I was trying to help her future, so she wouldn't waste it, I wa trying to help Oge and Philip so they wouldn't wake up tomorrow and be stranded for not being disciplined, Alex if I may ask to you, if you're to marry today will you marry a girl like Gloria just be honest with yourself, you're just wasting the girl's future and mind you I never told her to leave in you, i…”

Alex didn't wait for him to finish before he interrupted him.

“It's better she left, who will marry, what you have had a taste of” Tony was shocked when he heard this.

“Oh, you pretender, you had s*x with her that day you came, you thought I wouldn't find out, Philip knew, remember Philip came here that day asking for me, you thought I wouldn't know you had a bite, and you're here pretending you want a better Future for her,a girl you had s*x with,like my girl,you still have mind to have s*x with her,where is your dignity?”

Tony felt cold, shiver ran down his spine. He never knew his brother was ever going to find out he had s*x with Gloria that day he came, He vividly remembered when Philip came and knocked on the door. Everything looked like conspiracy to him, it looked to him like it was all a set up, he regretted being seduced that afternoon by Gloria, he regretted coming to her on the bed to massage her.

He stood transfixed,as everything was dawn on him, he could no longer escape, Alex now knew the little secret he had, and he was going to use it against him anywhere, he was thinking of what next to do, before he realizes what was happening Alex got hold of his luggages and threw them outside.

Tony was brought back to where he was,when he saw his luggages outside.

“Mr man, come out from there, come outside” Alex ordered, he was standing by the door, ready to leave for work.

“Bro Please allow me to take my bath, i'm stinking” Tony told him.

“My dear, come out from there, you wouldn't like me if I met you inside there” Alex barked at him.

“Bro, I will leave, but allow me to take my bath first” Tony pleaded, he almost wanted to knee down.

“I see, I look like i'm joking? Do i look like a play to you, you wouldn't like me if i come inside there and met you,like I will throw you out like your luggages, my friend come outside,fast” Alex ordered in a more serious and furious tone,that sent fears down Tony's spine.

Tony hurried and came outside, he stood behind Alex crying.

“Please, brother I'm sorry, I've no where to go from here, if you send me out” He was crying and pleading behind Alex.

Alex ignore him, locked his door and took the keys with him and began leaving, Tony stood and watch him walk out from the compound with no remorse on his face.

By the time Alex left the compound, Tony looked down on his luggages scattered on the floor, tears cascaded from his eyes like water, he was unable to see properly for some time.

Chapter 18

Tony the moment he saw Philip, he was terrified as he looked and saw his left hand behind his back. He wondered what Philip was hiding.

“What are you hiding behind you” Tony asked getting up from where he was sitting with his phone. Put his phone into his pocket and began walking backwards attempting to escape if there would be need to.

“I see you don't want to mind your business in this place” Philip spoke, he halt still hiding his left hand behind.

Tony was sweating profusely, he was confused and afraid. He looked at Philip shaking rigorously. Peeing on his trousers.

“What have i done Philip?” Tony asked.

“So bro, you have the effontery to ask me that kind of question? Like so you don't know what you've done?” Philip asked him vexed, his eyes were red now.

“Bro,I did what i taught was best, i was trying to help you, help the both of you, that the life…”

“Hold your sermon” Philip retorted, revealing the knife he was hiding behind his back.

“Hold your sermon man, who do you think you're preaching to?” He asked him,making a few steps forward before he halt.

Tony terrified, Walked back using his back. He was at alert seeing Philip with a knife in his hand, He knew it wasn't just going to be a serious fight but a violent one, which might cost a life, He wanted to run away,but his instincts told him to relax and face whatever comes his way.

“You're the reason why Gloria left your brother and never came back, like if you were not satisfied with the one you've done, you came again this time to call out i and my girlfriend, like bro are you Okay?” He asked visibly angry, he balled the fist he was holding the knife.

“Like bro, you're the reason why my girl broke up with me,do you know what, you're the reason my girl broke up with me,like she left me because of your foolishness” He spoke fuming.

“This girl left me all because of those nonsense you spoke” tears were beginning to cascade from his eyes. “You're a big fool, Yes Tony you're very big fool.” He called him wiping his tears with the back of his palm.

“You're a bastard, bro my girl left me and you thought I will be happy with you?, Ehh?”

“Bro if i should be honest with you, you don't deserve to be called a bro, I will only pardon you because of your brother, he has being begging me to spare you,if not” Tony paused, used the knife and demonstrated to Tony that he would have being killed.

“But I will pardon you because of your brother,he is like a big bro to me,else my men would have come down from the college to deal with you, but I'm pardoning you doesn't mean anything,look well, look at me.” He paused pointing his knife at Tony.

“Let me warn you, like let it sound like a warning to you, because I have told your brother and have given him conditions, else he doesn't want to live here, mind your business Tony, Never you again interfere in my matters, You hear me so?” He spoke putting his hand down and using his left hand to hold his left ear.

“But bro I……” Tony spoke but was interrupted.

“Shut up, you will hear from me through your brother when he gets back, warning you is just useless but i've to,be very careful bro, else you want to die young, never you try again to come my path,like I wouldn't be as kind as I'm today, like I will finish you,i will clear you out from my way, don't dare me next time , Bastard” He called him,turned and began walking back to his apartment.

When Philip had gone, haven entered his apartment, Tony walked to where he was previously sitting before Philip came and sat down.

The first thing that came to his mind was, what Philip had just spoke, He told him he would hear from him through his brother.

“What could that be?” Tony thought out loud.

He was perplexed, he wondered what his brother and Philip might have discussed.

He felt so confused, He couldn't come up with anything on his mind. Tony thought about Philip whom had just come and threatened him with a knife.

He thought about what he discussed with him and Oge and blamed himself. He blamed himself for where he was.

He mumbled a song, as tears cascaded from his eyes. He made use of the back of his palm to wipe them.

He stared at the floor, while his mind went back to a memory lane of when he was in 300 level. he wished there was someone who have told him what he told Philip and Oge.

If there was anyone, he believed he won't be where he was, Philip wouldn't have known whom he was let alone to threaten him like he was a goat.

Tony wept bitterly, his eyes were swollen. When he thought about how is kindness had turned out to be a mistake he wept bitterly.

Tony has being outside for more than three hours in same position, contemplating of how it was going to be when his brother Alex comes back.

He thought, his brother was more likely to warn him and let everything be. But he was wrong.

He was still sitting where he was sitting contemplating. When Alex opened the gate and walked into the background.

Tony immediately he saw Alex walking in, Got up from where he was sitting. And walked towards their apartment.

The both of them met at the entrance door. Alex looked at him and gave him the keys, Tony took the key's from him and unlocked the door.

Both of them walked inside, While Tony went and sat on the couch, Alex went to the bathroom and returned about four minutes later.

“Bro you f**k up,I swear” He spoke,looking at Tony while he went and sat down on the bed.

“Bro how, I was trying….”

“Forget, what you're trying to do, it's useless, very useless, Bro how can you go about destroying people's life and relationships? What's your aim?” Alex asked.

“I was to come to know why Gloria left me, like I'm tired, I'm disappointed in you, is this what I brought you Onitsha for “ Alex asked, paused took a deep breath and continued.

“Tony, I know you're my brother,but i don't think you will continue staying here with me, just because it's late into the night, I will let you spend the night here,but first tomorrow morning, you have to find some where else to stay” Alex concluded.

“Bro what do you mean?” Tony asked him devastated, he felt like he didn't hear him well.

Chapter 17

Oge was standing at the door with her bags crying.

Tony looked at her and smiled.

“Are you already going?” He asked, like he didn't acknowledge she was crying.

“Yes; i'm going, thank you so much for your word, thanks for your advise, thanks for caring to tell us the truth, I pray God bless you,I pray you get your reward.” She spoke crying seriously.

“Amen, may God bless you too’ stop crying come here.” Tony Spoke open his arms, while Oge hugged him in a very tight embrace.

Meanwhile all this while this was happening, Alex and his girlfriend were sitting perplexed, they didn't know why Oge had come to thank Tony admist tears.

Alex looked at his girlfriend whom turned and looked at him confused.

“Do you know who is she?” The girl asked Alex.

“Yea, She is one of my neighbor's girlfriend.”

“Is she not a student?’

“Yea, she is and the boyfriend of a person is also a student.”

“Oh! Is there any student living here?” She asked with her eyes wide open out of curiosity.

“Yes”

“Then why did she leave her boyfriend and came and be crying in your brother's arms?” She asked confused.

“I don't know them,let's watch”

The both were disappointed wheh, Tony left with Oge. Helping her carry her bags.

Tony walked Oge to the bustop,where she got a tricycle which was driving to the campus.

On her way with Tony to the bustop. They had serious meaningful conversations. In which Tony advised her,Told her stories including how he made Gloria his brother's girlfriend turn a new leaf, she told him Stories of girls in the university who were double dating, cohabiting and having multiple s*xual partners, how most of them ended. Tony advised her as she returns back to the campus. She should make her study her priority, find a skill to learn at her leisure and join campus fellowship and women groups for accountability. After a long lengthy conversation which ended when Oge got a tricycle at the busstop. Before the tricycle left, Oge exchanged contacts with Tony. Promising to always call him.

When the tricycle left, Tony felt relieved. He sighed and started walking down the street. Happy and humming You too dey bless me by Frank Edwards as he walked down the street.

He was very happy, He had just made two people turn a new leaf, two people reject their old life and embrace a new path which leads to a better Future even when it's hard. He smiled but something bothered him, He wondered what was going to be Philip's reaction.

His instincts told him Philip wasn't happy with him, He thought Philip would feel he just did what he did intentionally to disrupt his relationship.

His mind raced, he thought about what would be Philip reaction, He might stop greeting him or or might began to conspire against him. Tony decided to wave the thought aside to walk home.

Anything that Philip was going to do wasn't going to be a problem,He was relieved that he had just told them the truth.

The truth made the both uncomfortable, and Oge having to go back to her hostel and promising him, never to come back again.

Tony waved everything in his mind aside, and walked into the compound, he unbolted the gate and walked into the compound.

He walked straight to their apartment only to met the door closed and locked with the key. Alex was out,he Brought out his phone from his pocket and dialed Alex.

“Hello bro, you're not home?” He asked Alex;immediately he picked the call at the second ring.

“Bro what did you just did?” Alex asked him from the other end.

“What I Just did? What did I do?” Tony asked confused.

“What did you call out Philip and his girlfriend to tell them, bro you're f**king up,what concerns you with this Boy's and girl’s ? Won't you allow them be and enjoy their youth?.”

“You call that enjoying of youth?” Tony retorted. He was annoyed if what his brother called it.

“Is it your business? No tell me is it your affair in any way? Are you their mother, father, or Guardian, no answer me.”

Tony didn't say anyword to Alex, he kept mute, The only sound playing was the one coming from where Alex was, He seems to have gone to have some fun in a lounge, Tony thought.

“And I never, knew you're the one, whom caused why Gloria left me, Philip was this why i brought you here in Onitsha? Do you want me to tell your Boss to suspend you and i will make you go back to Asaba where you've being staying wasting your life.”

“But bro, who told you all of this?’ Tony asked, his mind was telling him, One particular person, that was Philip.

“So Tony you have the effontery to ask me questions, like are you Okay?” He paused for a moment, thinking of what else to say “Do you know what? , don't worry i will be back, we need to talk, I don't think you will keep staying with me,you should find where else to stay from tomorrow, but that will be when i come back.” He Spoke and hanged the phone on his ear.

Tony felt devastated, He put down his phone and kept it bedside him, His mind went on a memory lane, He remembered how he lived carelessly in the university, and how he was being kind to Gloria, Philip and Oge wanting a better life and Future for them, but it was turning out he committed a crime by telling them to turn a new leaf.

He was contemplating, what he was going to do, he knew his brother Alex for being a man of his words. He told him to start looking for where he was going to be staying. The thought almost made tears escape from his eyes. His brother was threatening him because he stand to correct students whom were doing wrong. Tony was sitting contemplating absent minded. When Philip walked up to him from no where, maintaining a serious face and hiding his left hand behind him.

Tony the moment he saw him, he was terrified as he looked and saw that his left hand was behind him. He wondered what Philip was holding at that hand he was hiding.

Chapter 16

“Bro I want to ask you something, I've come to get so used of s*x. I don't think i can go a day without it, Whenever i don't have s*x i just go and ma******te, cm and relieve myself and it has slowly become a part of me . Like I think i'm beginning to lose my mind.”

Tony looked at him quietly and smiled. He was amazed by the revelation, He had being there and knew how it felt.

Oge turned and looked at Philip, whom was staring at Tony eager for a response.

“You have to pray, speak to God and master the act of self control. Don't allow your impulse to control you, instead be in control, that's masculinity.”

“But, how can i?” Philip asked using his left hand to scratch his head. “Like bro i don't know how to do it,i have got so used to intimacy, i’m not sure, I can't do without it a day.”

“Bro masculinity is not f**king women, that's lack of self control. Real masculinity is self control and focus even when it's hard.”

“Bro, but this isn't what i asked you, i'm telling you that I've gotten so used to s*x that I can't go a day without it.”

“If you've gotten so used to s*x that you can't do without it, then you should get used to getting useless in life. You will wake up one day and see yourself with no real value in life.” Tony spoke bluntly.

Philip looked down on the floor perplexed. Tony wasn't giving him the responses he wanted to hear, he stared on his palm on his foot severally till his sight became blur.

Tony looked at him after a minute of silent and asked him, if he was Okay, Philip turned and looked at Tony and told him he was fine.

“I know you're not” Tony Said. “ I know the both of you are not okay” He added.

“But, how i so much wish, that what i'm telling you both today, Someone was there to tell me these things when i was in school, but Nobody did so I learnt the hard way.”

“You see where I'm today, A dispatch rider, we complain and blame the government for unemployment in this country.”

“But we fail to build ourselves for those opportunities we want.”

“Just take a look at me, a Computer scientist graduate. now a dispatch rider, the same computer science i studied, that same class, that same lecture hall i attended, another of my course mate out there who studied computer science is building products today, making impact,is one step ahead of survival mode, but see where i'm.”

Tony paused, used the back of his palm to wipe the tears cascading from his eyes. He sighed,cleared his throat and continued.

“You both can do with my advise, or keep living your life the way you're living now, the end will justify the means, I've few word's to tell you both.” He paused and looked at both of them keenly, looking at Oge this time he asked her.

“So Oge if i ask you, will your sponsor be happy when they find out that you most times miss class just to be with a man? What do you think will be your sponsors reaction ?.” He asked Oge.

“I might be flogged,like it wouldn't go well.” Oge responded with tears cascading from her eyes. She appeared to be the most remorse.

“Thank you, So Philip.” He called turning to Philip. Whom looked at him. He wondered what Tony question was going to be.

“So how will your sponsor react when they come here, and see that you're not studying, but regardless you're in here with a girl always Instead of focusing on your academics?’

Philip swallowed his salvia severally. Thinking of what will be the right response to Tony's question. Tony kept looking at him patiently for his response. It has passed two minutes yet Philip was yet to reply Tony.

“You haven't replied me, I'm still waiting for your response don't just keep silent.” Tony spoke.

“But Bro, you should know that their reaction wouldn't be good at all.”

“Thank you,i’m here telling you both today to remove the monkey's hand from the pot of soup not until it turns to a human hand.”

“What i’m telling you both today,Nobody told me this when i was in school, and i regret it.”

“I will leave you both now, I just hope you both choose to do the best, I wouldn't be happy to see you both live life this way and keep quiet, They say a child upstairs won't see,what an elder downstairs saw.”

“I will be leaving both of you now,I just hope you both turn a new leaf.”

Tony stood up and started leaving. He Walked back to their apartment.

By the time he was returning to the apartment. Alex and his girl were done making out. Tony met the door open. He saw Alex and his girl eating around the sitting room area of the room.

He walked in quietly; went and sat on one edge of the bed.

“Tony come join us” Alex spoke.

“Oh I've eaten bro” Tony told him.

Tony brought out his phone, laid down with his belly on the bed and began playing a game on his phone.

Tony was deep invested into the game. When a knock came on the door. He paused the game and walked to check whom was knocking. He was amazed to see Oge with her bags standing akimbo at the door with tears.

Chapter 15

“You don't think you can survive without him, Good, I Thank God you said you think, because you're not sure yet, listen carefully” Tony paused looked at both of them, cleared his throat severally before he continued.

“Let me tell you something you don't know.” He turned and looked at Tony whom was sitting at his right hand side and asked him.

“Bro, do you see a future with Oge?, Do you ever see yourself getting married to her in the future?” Tony asked looking at him.

Philip kept quite, he contemplated about Tony's question deeply. He felt confused of what to tell him, In his mind he didn't see any future with Oge. He was still contemplating to know the best response . When Tony turned and looked at Oge and called her.

“Oge.” He called her.

“Sir.” She retorted and turned quickly to look at him.

“If i may ask you Oge, do you see yourself in the Future getting married to Philip and do you think there's sufficient alignment that shows you both will end together in the Future?” Tony asked her.

“This question, I think should be answered by Philip.” She paused took a deep breath, looked at Philip whom was staring down on the floor, she returned her gaze on Tony and continued.

“Like I don't see anything,I don't see any alignment, I see no future in this relationship.” Oge spoke looking at Philip whom was looking at the ground like he left his Gold on the floor.

“Thank you, that shows what's keeping you both together, Philip, Oge is your girlfriend right?” Tony asked turning to look at Philip.

“Yes she is my Girlfriend.”

“Good, Nobody is saying that relationship is bad, but let me ask you. Be honest to yourself, aside s*x will you still date Oge?.”

The question sounded like a bomb shell to Philip's ear s, He wasn't expecting a serious question like that to come from Tony admist Oge's presence. He thought about it. his response would determine, if Oge was going to break up with him or not. He thought carefully on what to say so not to get drowned my the river, Tony had just threw him into.

Oge turned and looked at Philip in anticipation. She liked the question Tony asked him and couldn't wait to know what his response would be, to her his response we determine what he takes her for. She looked at Philip whom seems to be contemplating seriously, She couldn't wait to know what his response could be.

Philip Thought for a while, He turned and looked at Tony and didn't know what to say again. He returned his face to the floor contemplating deeply.

“I thought, you wanted to to say something?” Tony asked him. Tony sensed the question felt so heavy for him, Philip raised his head and replied.

“No.I wouldn't date her” Philip spoke.

Tony smiled, Philip felt so bad for his response. he only choose to be honest. He knew whether honest or not he was definitely going to lose her Oge.

Oge felt very bad and devastated when Philip responded to Tony's question. She didn't know what to say, few drop of tears left her eyes. She looked at Philip with so much contempt, She was vexed and enraged and couldn't wait for Tony to leave, so she would go in and park her belongings and leave for good.

“Tony smiled at them, he cleared his throat before he began..

“Philip, thank God you're being honest to yourself.”

“Your response, tells us that one of the reasons you're dating Oge is because s*x is included.and if it happens to be excluded from the relationship youwill definitely begin to to withdraw.”

“This doesn't determine or say you're a bad person, of course we are all humans. we have blood in our veins. But a relationship which you will withdraw from without s*x isn't loved again.”

“This kind of relationship isn't building you anylonger, Instead focus on your studies and make your studies your priority. A relationship that you will withdraw tomorrow when her body is no longer available is not leading you to any where, such relationship doesn't have a future, it will definitely lead to no where, because it is based on lust and infatuation. And relationship that started this way don't turn out to end well later.” Tony paused and looked at theirs faces, they were paying attention.

“Coming back to you Oge, you said you're in love with Philip and you dont think you can do without him, like before I start, how old are you?” He asked looking at her.

*I'm eighteen” She retorted.

“Yes i used to Love him” Oge spoke out loud.
