We are excited to welcome Masakhane to HelpMum & Dobic Health HQ.

We’re currently working with them on an interesting project, and once it’s integrated into our tools, it’ll help us reach even more pregnant women and nursing mothers in a way that feels natural to them.

We also took them to Dobic Health to see the healthcare infrastructure we’re using to increase access to healthcare for everyone.

Partnerships like this remind us that the future of healthcare isn’t built alone, it’s built with people who believe in the same vision. Here’s to more collaborations, more impact, and more lives touched.

HelpMum Launches MamaBench, Counterfactual Benchmark for Maternal and Paediatric AI:

HelpMum Africa just released MamaBench, a counterfactual benchmark built to test whether AI models can actually reason through maternal and paediatric diagnoses, or if they’re just pattern matching to right answers.

It consists of 434 clinical narratives, arranged in 217 matched pairs, spanning 371 maternal and paediatric conditions. Every narrative was individually authored from scratch by our medical team at HelpMum Africa, written in first person, patient reported language rather than adapted from existing datasets. Each pair links a base clinical case to a counterfactual version, a case with the fewest possible changes needed to shift the correct diagnosis, testing whether an AI system’s reasoning is genuinely sound, or simply pattern-matching its way to a right answer. In keeping with HelpMum Africa’s approach to open, standards-based health innovation, MamaBench’s full dataset is released publicly and free to use with no restricted access, no paywall. The accompanying evaluation code is in final preparation and will be released shortly.

One month in, and the impact is already growing.✨

Despite flooded roads, heavy rainfall, and difficult journeys, our team at HelpMum has remained committed to reaching Primary Health Care centres and ensuring pregnant women receive the nutrition education they need.

In just four weeks:

✨ Over 100 pregnant women reached with maternal nutrition education

✨ Improved awareness of antenatal supplements and healthy nutrition during pregnancy

✨ Strong post assessment results showing lasting knowledge retention.

✨ Trained Community Health Care workers in Oyo state as HelpMum Nutrition Champions to strengthen nutrition counseling on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition ( MIYCN)

This is only the beginning. Together, we are empowering healthcare workers, supporting healthier pregnancies and building stronger communities .

Immunization is the foundation of a healthy, productive population. Preventing infections reduces the burden on health systems, and a healthier population is a more productive one.

Last week, our state officer visited Osun and Oyo state with our vaccination tracker posters. We provided comprehensive education to health care workers and nursing mothers on the significance of vaccination and to effectively use the vaccination tracker in monitoring. Some of the communities visited in Osun includes: irebami, igbogi, idasa and arvon . Some of the communities visited in Oyo state includes: Babasale, iwo road, oke adu, apata, aroro makinde

Also, our state officers visited Kano and imo state for the HelpMum adviser. Some of the communities visited in Kano includes: unguwar kudu and unguwa gabar and in Imo includes: Njemanze

Our efforts at HelpMum are aimed at promoting increased awareness and knowledge of the importance of vaccinations, which we believe will lead to higher vaccination rates and healthier population.💚

We’re making a change with Nutrition Champions.

A week ago we had our in house Dietician conduct an amazing training for community healthcare workers in Oyo state. These workers are often the first in person health information contact many individuals reach. HelpMum Africa has a history of training field workers, and now we have expanded our training base to nutrition topics. We improve the knowledge base of community health workers, so they in turn can increase public awareness on maternal and infant nutrition.

Stay tuned as we spread across multiple states enhancing access to affordable healthcare for mother and child!✅🚀
