YOUNG PEOPLE ARE NOT THE FUTURE. THEY ARE ALREADY DELIVERING THE FUTURE. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026
Under this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” HIKIMA COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (HCOMDI) is celebrating something more important than youth potential youth action and results.
Across communities, young people are identifying problems, mobilising their peers, creating solutions, demanding accountability, supporting vulnerable groups, building peaceful communities, and contributing to local development.
But potential alone does not create transformation.
Investment does. Opportunity does. Participation does. And meaningful partnerships do.
At HCOMDI, our commitment is clear: to move young people from the margins of development to the centre of community transformation.
We believe every young person should have the opportunity to:
🔹 Participate in decisions that affect their lives.
🔹 Develop the skills and knowledge needed to thrive.
🔹 Lead solutions to challenges within their communities.
🔹 Access opportunities that translate potential into livelihoods and impact.
🔹 Build communities that are inclusive, peaceful and resilient.
The contexts may be different urban or rural, advantaged or underserved, educated or excluded but the aspirations are common:
A life of dignity. A voice that matters. Opportunities that are real. Communities that are safe. And a future worth building.
This International Youth Day, HCOMDI calls on governments, development partners, CSOs, communities, private sector actors and young people themselves:
Don’t just celebrate young people. INVEST IN THEM. LISTEN TO THEM. PARTNER WITH THEM. AND CREATE SPACE FOR THEM TO LEAD.
Because when young people are empowered to lead, communities don't just change they move forward.
Different Contexts. Common Aspirations. Shared Responsibility. Collective Action.
Happy International Youth Day 2026! 🇳🇬🌍

Lighting the Way to Safer Motherhood in Sokoto State No mother should have to bring life into the world in darkness.
Across Sokoto State, thousands of women rely on primary healthcare facilities for safe delivery services. Yet, for many of these facilities, unreliable electricity remains a critical challenge putting mothers, newborns, and frontline health workers at unnecessary risk.
In sokoto, a new chapter begins…..
Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative (HCOMDI), in partnership with We Care Solar, proudly flagged off the distribution of 500 Solar Suitcases to labour rooms across all 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State a bold investment in safer childbirth, stronger health systems, and healthier communities.
The flag-off ceremony took place at PHC Alkammawa and PHC Rumbukawa, where the Ward Councilor warmly received the Solar Suitcases and commended the initiative as a timely and impactful intervention that will strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare services.
One Solar Suitcase. One Safe Delivery. One Mother Protected. One Newborn Given a Brighter Start, This is more than the installation of solar-powered lighting……
It is about ensuring that every delivery can be conducted safely, regardless of the time of day or the availability of electricity. It is about empowering healthcare workers with the tools they need to save lives. It is about giving mothers confidence that quality care will be available when they need it most.
From bustling urban communities to the remote and security-challenged Local Government Areas of Isa, Sabon Birni, and beyond, this initiative is leaving no community behind. Every Solar Suitcase delivered represents renewed hope for families, improved working conditions for healthcare providers, and a stronger, more resilient primary healthcare system.
As we complement the dedicated efforts of the Sokoto State Government and our health sector partners, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every mother has access to safe, dignified, and quality maternal healthcare.
Because behind every illuminated labour room is the promise of a healthier beginning, a safer delivery, and another life given the opportunity to thrive.
Together, we are not just bringing light to health facilities we are bringing hope to mothers, strength to healthcare workers, and a brighter future to communities across Sokoto State.
Get Ready, Get Ready!!!
Get Ready for it, it’s massive, it’s narrative changing and it’s unique and of a kind!!!
