SHOULD A PROFESSIONAL DJ BE DEEPLY INVOLVED IN POLITICS? 🤔

My honest opinion is that a professional DJ should not become too attached or partisan in politics if the goal is to build and sustain a successful long-term DJ career.

Why heavy political involvement can affect a DJ's career

1. It can divide your audience.

Music is one of the few things that brings people together regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation. Once a DJ openly identifies with one political party like APC, PDP, Labour Party etc and constantly attacks others, there is a risk of losing fans, clients, and booking opportunities from those on the opposite side.

In Nigeria, politics is highly emotional, and many event organizers prefer entertainers who can appeal to everyone.

2. It can affect your brand image.

A DJ is generally seen as someone who creates vibes, entertainment, and memorable experiences. When politics becomes your public identity, people may start seeing you as a political campaigner rather than a professional DJ.

Instead of being known for your skills, you may end up being known as "the DJ for a particular party." Like APC DJ, OR PDP DJ😀

3. It can take attention away from your craft.

Political campaigns, rallies, meetings, and related activities require time and energy. The more involved you become, the less time you may have for improving your skills, updating your music library, creating content, networking, and growing your brand.

Over time, this can affect your consistency and professionalism.

4. There is always a risk.

Politics changes very quickly. A politician or party that is popular today may lose influence tomorrow. If your brand becomes strongly tied to a particular political group, your reputation may also be affected when public opinion changes.

5. The money Party

Let's be realistic. Political campaigns, government events, rallies, and promotional jingles can pay very well. In some cases, a DJ can earn in one event what would normally take several regular gigs to make.
