13TH SEPTEMBER, 2026
TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
THEME: FORGIVE AS WE HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN
Beloved in Christ, today’s liturgy remind us that forgiveness is not an option but criteria for our Christian responsibility; it is a condition for experiencing God’s mercy. In the Gospel, Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answers, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22)—meaning that our forgiveness must have no limit.
The master in the parable represents God, who is willing to forgive and write off completely the enormous debt of our sins. Yet the same master becomes displeased when the servant, after receiving such great mercy, refuses to show mercy to his fellow servant (Matthew 18:23-35). This teaches us that we cannot sincerely ask God to forgive our sins while deliberately refusing to forgive those who have offended us.
Dear brothers and sisters let us forgive—not because the offender deserves it, but because we too have received forgiveness from God. Each time we are tempted to say, “Enough is enough,” let us remember the mercy we ourselves continually need from the Lord. May we never close our hearts to those who seek forgiveness, for anyone who has been shown God's mercy has no right to withhold mercy from their Neighbor?
Let us Pray:
Lord Jesus, forgive us as we forgive those who have offended us. Heal every wounded heart, remove anger and resentment from us, and give us the grace to forgive sincerely and without limit. Amen.
Happy Sunday

IFE COMMUNITY REJECTS THE REPORTED INSTALLATION OF ADEWALE ADEROJU ONISAKA AS OLOKU OF OKUU ỌMỌNI, ILÉ-IFÈ
THE IFE INTELLECTUALS
Towards a new Ilé-Ifè
PRESS RELEASE:
On behalf of the entire sons and daughters of Ilé-Ifè, The Ife Intellectuals (TII) hereby announces its rejection of the reported installation and crowning of Prince Adewale Aderoju Onisaka as the Olokun of Okuu Ọmọni, Ilé-Ifè.
The controversy surrounding the vacant Oloku stool has persisted for several weeks within the Ilé-Ifè community, particularly following reports that the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Ọba Toriola, presented a preferred candidate from Modakeke Community over the Ilé-Ifè community's candidate, *Prince Kayode Ayinde, son of the late Baba Ayinde, the first Baalẹ of Okuu Ọmọni, Ilé-Ifè, who served under the traditional authority of the late Ọọni Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II.*
*REPORTED CROWNING IN MODAKEKE*
It has come to the attention of The Ife Intellectuals that *Ọba Toriola, Ogunsua of Modakeke reportedly arranged the crowning of Aderoju Adewale Onisaka on 6 September 2026 at a Civil Centre in Modakeke, Ilé-Ifè.*
A video purportedly showing the said event has circulated widely on social media and has further heightened concerns among the people of Ilé-Ifè.
*It has also come to our attention that the same Aderoju Adewale Onisaka was subsequently presented and reportedly re-crowned in a private ceremony at the Ọọni's Palace, in the presence of Ọọni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ọjaja II and under the watch of Ọba Toriola, Ogunsua of Modakeke.*
*CONCERNS OVER DUE TRADITIONAL PROCESS*
The Ife Intellectuals is seriously concerned by information available to us indicating that the candidate presented by the Ogunsua was not subjected to or cleared through the traditional screening process of the Ife Traditional Council Screening Committee.
If confirmed, this raises fundamental questions about the procedure through which an individual could be crowned or presented as a traditional ruler over a community in Ilé-Ifè without the participation of the appropriate traditional institutions of Ilé-Ifè.
This development has come as a rude shock to many sons and daughters of Ilé-Ifè.
_*We therefore ask:*_
How can the Ogunsua of Modakeke crown a king for a community in Ilé-Ifè without the authority, participation or clearance of the appropriate traditional institutions of Ilé-Ifè?
Similarly, we are concerned about the reported presentation or re-crowning of the same candidate at the Ọọni's Palace without the reported approval or clearance of the Ife Traditional Council Screening Committee.
*CALL FOR URGENT GOVERNMENT AND SECURITY INTERVENTION*
In view of the sensitivity of this matter and the potential for it to generate tension between communities, The Ife Intellectuals respectfully calls on:
- His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Executive Governor of Osun State;
- His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
- The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command; and
- The Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Osun State Command
to urgently look into the circumstances surrounding the reported installation and take appropriate steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
We make this appeal because the current development has the potential to heighten tension between Ilé-Ifè and Modakeke if not properly and urgently addressed.
We strongly urge all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any action capable of provoking confrontation or disturbing the peace of the ancient city of Ilé-Ifè and its neighbouring communities.
*OKUU ỌMỌNI AND ITS HISTORICAL IDENTITY:*
The Ife Intellectuals maintains that Okuu Ọmọni is a village/community and farming settlement within Ilé-Ifè, associated with Ife families who have historically occupied and cultivated the area.
The community's traditional affairs should therefore be handled in accordance with the established traditional institutions, customs and applicable laws governing Ilé-Ifè.
We reject any attempt to impose a traditional ruler on Okuu Ọmọni through a process that excludes the legitimate traditional structures of Ilé-Ifè.
*OUR POSITION*
The Ife Intellectuals is oppose the way Aderoju Adewale Onisaka was seleted. Our concern is the process, authority and legitimacy surrounding the reported installation.
We demand:
1. Immediate clarification of the circumstances surrounding the reported crowning of Aderoju Adewale Onisaka on 6 September 2026.
2. Clarification of the role of the Ogunsua of Modakeke in the selection and reported crowning of a candidate for the Olokun stool of Okuu Ọmọni.
3. Clarification of the reported private ceremony at the Ọọni's Palace and the authority under which the candidate was presented or re-crowned.
4. Respect for the established traditional process of Ilé-Ifè, including the role of the Ife Traditional Council Screening Committee.
5. Immediate steps by the government and security agencies to prevent escalation of tension between Ilé-Ifè and Modakeke.
Until the appropriate traditional and lawful processes are duly followed and the concerns surrounding the reported installation are satisfactorily addressed, The Ife Intellectuals hereby rejects the reported installation of Prince Adewale Aderoju Onisaka as the Oloku of Okuu Ọmọni, Ilé-Ifè.
We remain committed to peace, justice, due process, respect for traditional institutions and the unity and development of Ilé-Ifè.
Signed:
*THE IFE INTELLECTUALS*
