In Nigeria today, a lot of young people are struggling silently with their mental health.

Within the last one week, we have seen heartbreaking stories of young people taking their own lives. One was a student at the Law School in Lagos, whose story went viral, and earlier today, I came across another heartbreaking story involving a fresh graduate and alumnus of a university.

It is honestly heartbreaking.

To every struggling young Nigerian, I know things may not be going the way you planned. I know some days can be extremely difficult. I know there are nights you cry yourself to sleep because you have no idea where your next help will come from.

Maybe it is the pressure to get a job.
The pressure to achieve certain goals by a particular age.
The fear that you are falling behind.
The comparison with your mates.
The feeling that everyone seems to be moving forward while you are still trying to figure things out.

But please, I want you to remember that its not the end of the world.

If you have made a mistake, you can try again. If a plan didn't work out, you can make another plan. If you have failed at something, it doesn't mean you are a failure.

Perfection does not exist. Our imperfections are part of what makes us human.

Please, don't be too hard on yourself because life didn't happen according to your timeline.

And to parents, guardians, friends and family, I sincerely admonish us to pay more attention to the people around us, especially young people.

Be their safe space.

Create an environment where they can talk to you without immediately being judged, mocked, compared or dismissed. Sometimes, people don't need a lecture. They simply need someone who will listen and remind them that they are not alone.

Because when someone feels like there is nobody in their corner, the loneliness can become overwhelming. They can begin to feel helpless, hopeless and like there is no way out.

Let us learn to stop judging people for what we don't understand.

You may not know the battle someone is fighting behind the smile, the social media posts or the silence.

Check on your people. Listen. Be kind. Be intentional.

And if you are currently going through a difficult season, please hold on. Your current situation is not the entirety of your story. Things can change there is nothing God cannot do

You may not have figured it all out yet, but that doesn't mean your story is over things will get better and I am rooting for you ❤️

1. If you constantly feel tired, even when you clearly didn't do any work and you've been resting well.

2. If your urine becomes foamy. If you noticed more than three times that whenever you urinate, the urine is always foamy, please go to the hospital ASAP.

3. If you constantly urinate at the middle of the night. If you wake up up to three or four times to urinate before daybreak, you should get checked.

4. If you experience swelling in your face, leg... Please get checked.

5. If you see any trace of blood in your urine or it's usually darker than the normal, please go to the hospital.

Location or distance is not a barrier

At the market where I was buying meat this afternoon, this woman was begging the meat sellers to give her the bones and other parts that people don't usually buy.

One guy who was also standing with us asked the man selling meat to us who she was.

He said she used to run a POS business, but someone came to withdraw money and scammed her of the entire ₦200k she had as capital.

Not long after, her husband also died while running his bike business.

The guy transferred ₦300k to the meat seller and told him to keep ₦200k with him. He should always give her ₦5k worth of meat every week.

He asked him to give her the remaining ₦100k so she could restart her POS business.

“Let me leave before you tell her.”

He left.

They called the woman.

Anytime she tried to talk, she would burst into tears.....

My neighbour was telling us how she employed a new sales girl to help her in her boutique and ended up sacking her the same day she resumed.

So what happened?

She told some of her friends that she was looking for a sales girl, and one of them connected her with a 19-year-old girl.

After the a visual interview, everything went well and they agreed that she would resume work the next day.

When she finally came to the shop, my neighbour started showing her around and explaining how everything worked.

She also showed her the shop's phone and told her that she would be using it to respond to customers on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs.

Immediately the girl saw the phone, she asked:

"Aunty, is that an Android phone?"

My neighbour said yes and asked her, "What's the problem?"

The girl then said:

"I don't know how to operate an Android phone ooo."

My neighbour was surprised and asked her, "Don't you have a phone?"

The girl said she does.

She even said she started using a phone since SS3, but the first phone she ever used was an iPhone 11 Pro.

My neighbour then asked her what phone she currently uses.

The girl casually replied:

"iPhone 16 Pro Max."

My neighbour said:

"iPhone 16 Pro Max ke? And you dey find work of ₦30k per month? You even wear bone straight wig sef! Oya come dey go i no want madam Na sales girl I want."
