Amazing Al

Amazing Al is the Australian-accented host of "The Amazing Alphabet Race" who recruits Elmo as a contestant in Sesame Street Episode 4154. Al chooses Elmo on the strength of knowing his ABCs, and tasks him to find every letter of the alphabet on signs all over Sesame Street before Cluck, the tap-dancing chicken, bangs the gong. Al appears periodically to announce Elmo's progress and, when Elmo "beats the cluck," he receives a package from a deliveryman that contains Elmo's prize. Amazing Al is a loose parody of New Zealand television personality Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race.
