Our smartphones have become modern-day oracles, predicting futures from the traces of our past 💫

In ‘Prophetai’, Ginevra Petrozzi looks at how algorithms quietly observe our lives and turn what they collect into predictions of what might come next.

Through “digital spells”, collective storytelling and imagined futures, Prophetai seeks to infiltrate these predictions and create new counter-narratives. Rather than accepting futures written by algorithms, the work reclaims prediction as a space for shared imagination and the possibility of living otherwise.

Four performances. Four different approaches to sound, technology and instability. 🌐

On Friday 25 September, Erik Peters & Lance Laoyan , ꪑá𝕣ⅈ ꪑá𝕜ó , Edwin van der Heide and HIIIT (former Slagwerk Den Haag) come together at WORM for V2_Live: Still Unstable.

The evening moves from the underwater sound world of Every Breath a Surge to Mári Mákó’s self-built cyberpunk string instrument Cy. Edwin van der Heide revisits his early electronic performance Solospel, before joining HIIIT for Overspel: an improvised duet for percussion and live electronics.

Across the programme, instruments are built, modified and reimagined, exploring what happens when sound, bodies and technology become unstable.

Last week at V2_: BYOW 🌐

Artists, designers and other web makers came together to share their own corners of the internet. from portfolios and digital sketchbooks to experiments, works in progress and strange little websites.

With ten minutes, a projector and a microphone, each participant took us through what they had built and the ideas and practices behind it. An evening around web craft, experimental publishing and the possibilities of creating and owning your own space online.

Thanks to everyone who brought a website and shared it with us.

Technology is often presented as something that simply keeps moving forward: faster, smarter, more efficient.

At V2_, we also want to ask: what is this technology actually doing to us and to the world around us? Who gets to shape it? Who benefits from it? Who might be excluded? And can artists imagine different ways of relating to technology?

That also brings us to the title of our 45th anniversary: Still Unstable.

After 45 years, that idea of instability is still very relevant. Maybe even more relevant than ever.

Meet Summer Sessions resident !🦋

Ceren Sözer is a Rotterdam-based multimedia artist and researcher whose practice focuses on the fragile infrastructures that sustain everyday life. Through speculative storytelling and research-driven experimentation, she deconstructs cultural narratives to explore where meanings become unstable.

During her Summer Sessions residency, Ceren is developing “This is why you are on the very same side as all the evil in the world”, a choice-based game rethinking where oppression is actually manufactured. Starting from the idea that structural injustice is not merely the work of a few evil leaders, the game looks at how systems of oppression are reproduced in daily encounters by millions of others.

Presented as a deconstructed arcade machine, the work confronts players with a series of small conflicts in which every choice is one between self-protection and repair. Each time a player chooses repair, the curtain slowly opens to reveal the research and diagrams the game is built on — allowing the work itself to become vulnerable in return.

Meet Summer Sessions resident Nina Anin !☀️

Nina Anin, also ninini.in, is an Amsterdam-based artist working across moving image, performance, installation, text, drawing and digital media. Her practice is playful and often humorous, exploring the sensibilities and estrangements of today’s technological society from an intimate, small-scale perspective.

During her Summer Sessions residency, Nina is developing POV Pilot, a video performance in which game-like characters in cartoonish helmets move through dream-like scenarios such as Aviation Vagabond Taking the Sky and Infinite Sunset Joy Ride. The work draws on the imagination and transmission hidden inside the Transformer statue Guard, located at the skatepark only 50 meters away from V2_.

POV Pilot explores how looking has become hybrid in a world of phones and cameras, where we can be physically present while simultaneously networked to multiple elsewheres. Across two screens, the cinematic result and its making-of unfold at the same time. Producing, directing, performing and looking all become part of the work, blurring the borders between performance, moving image and its production.
