I’ve been asked lately if January is a good month for a detox.

January is when we set new goals:
losing fat, starting the gym, “resetting” after the holidays.

From a health perspective, the body already detoxes every day through the liver, kidneys, and gut. It doesn’t need aggressive cleanses.

In both Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, winter is a time to support the body, not stress it. Harsh detoxes can weaken digestion and energy.

What I usually recommend in January instead:
• warm, nourishing foods
• enough protein
• consistent movement
• good sleep
• supporting gut health (fiber + probiotic foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut)

⚠️ Why detox products sell so well in January?
• guilt after the holidays
• desire for fast results
• the idea of a “reset”

But quick fixes don’t build long-term health.

Let’s make this year about building habits, not chasing quick fixes.
Health is created through consistency, not cleanses.
