Black Pyramid

Finishing up what are hopefully the final touches and tweaks to the remix of the first Black Pyramid album from 2009.

It's a lot bigger sounding, all the parts are accentuated, and it's got a very cool atmosphere to it. Feels like you're in the room listening to the band play these songs.

Hopefully we'll have some news on that soon, and in the interim, also writing new material.

In that vein, going to plug another band that's a huge influence and inspiration. Sloth, the UK band. Short-lived and with one album under their belt, the story is that they borrowed Electric Wizard's equipment and recorded The Voice of God. This 2001 release a statement of intent, just a rare combination of primordial heaviness with exemplary songwriting skills. It was a huge influence on the Black Pyramid sound.

This album is a criminally underrated hidden gem that many loves of modern doom just haven't been properly exposed to.

Here, check out a track, as this one really travels, from the lumbering intro through the bludgeoning riffs and climactic chorus.

A band that’s been a bigger influence lately has been Potion.

They’re newer, they’re from Australia, and they’re yet to even release a full length album.

Still, when it comes to doom, they check all the boxes. They’ve got a big sound, they write ridiculously heavy, catchy riffs, and they meld in a lot of psychedelic influences.

Check out the three EP’s they’ve put out. Perfect vibe for getting in the mood to write. A big inspiration these

Working a bit on the debut album remix today and also working on new material.

In that spirit, wanted to post some music that's been a big influence on the writing process, yet some of these bands don't get as much love as expected.

Zoroaster is a big one. Early on, they were really a model for combining doom and more experimental, psychedelic rock. Still listening to them for inspiration.
