Garry Kasparov stated in 2014 that: “Norway Chess is the Wimbledon of Chess.” Reminiscent of other major sports events such as indeed Wimbledon, Norway Chess exhibits a distinguished and emotionally recognisable aura. Those who are following the games and the commentary online and via tv broadcast are being immersed into an exciting and memorable setting. With a slightly risky yet innovative game format, Norway Chess hosts 10 world class chess players each year in Stavanger, Norway, including Magnus Carlsen who is currently holding the title for 4 years in a row and 5 in total. This year, the tournament will take place May 29 – June 9 with a total prize fund of 2,500,000 NOK (≈ €220,000). Returning to the tournament are GMs Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Anish Giri, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and A***n Tari. Additionally, we are excited to welcome two new young talents to the tournament: 18-year-old Grandmaster, Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan, and 16-year-old Grandmaster, Dommaraju Gukesh from India.
