SafeHavens

A new Safe Drinking Water Project is underway at the RHERI hostel, helping to provide children and staff with a clean and reliable source of drinking water.

With support from Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC Nepal), the project includes the construction of a deep tube well, water filtration and purification, and improvements to sanitation facilities.

The project was officially inaugurated on 12 July 2026, and work is now well underway. Drilling has progressed beyond 100 feet, with iron pipes being installed to support the borehole as the team works towards reaching the required depth of 150 feet.

Every step brings RHERI closer to a more reliable supply of safe drinking water, something that will make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of the children and staff who call the hostel home.

We’re incredibly grateful to Latter-day Saint Charities for helping make this important project possible, and to our partner RH​ERI for their continued commitment to the children in their care.

Last week, Stacey from American School for the Deaf and SafeHavens CEO, Amy Horrocks, had a wonderful meeting with the older kids at RHERI.

It was an uplifting session where Stacey stepped the kids through learning new ASL words, as well as meeting with each of them individually.🫶

Without access to sign langage or Deaf-inclusive education, Junu, who was born deaf, was unable to fully express herself or connect with the world in the way every child deserves.

At just seven years old, everything changed when she enrolled at RHERI and was introduced to Nepali Sign Language for the very first time.🩵
