Fresh thinking from Vector’s young professionals

What does the future of energy look like through the eyes of early career professionals?

At our latest intern and graduate showcase, hosted by Anna Mayow,, we heard from Vivian Chen and Hayley Thomas about the work they’ve been contributing to.

Vivian, from ETH Zurich in Switzerland, spoke about her internship experience joining Vector's economic regulation and pricing team with Richard Sharp and Eva Lightbody. Vivian shared her contributions, what she has learned, and broader findings that will continue to add value to Vector Limited’s ongoing regulatory and pricing thinking.

Hayley spoke about her external secondment with Mac Diarmid Institute as a co-author of the New Zealand Cleantech Impact Report 2026. This showcases the important work that some of New Zealand's cleantech businesses are doing in reducing emissions here and globally.

It was a great opportunity to hear fresh perspectives from people who are early in their career and recognise the growth, curiosity and practical work happening across the business and in the broader industry.

Copper theft is putting Auckland communities at risk

Our crews are responding to an increasing number of copper theft incidents, with approximately 630 reported over the past year.

Thieves are damaging critical electrical infrastructure like live cables and leaving behind dangerous conditions.

The consequences can include:
⚡ Unsafe electrical equipment
⚡ Serious risk of injury or electrocution
⚡ Power outages
⚡ Damage to customers’ appliances, heat pumps and electronics
⚡ Crews diverted from planned maintenance

If you see suspicious activity around electricity equipment, don't approach or confront anyone. Report it to the Police by calling 111 if it is happening now, or 105 if it is after the fact.

Every attempted copper theft creates a risk to people and takes crews, time and money away from important work that keeps the network safe and reliable.

Connecting at Auckland’s Disability Transition Expo

Vector Limited joined the Disability Transition Expo in Auckland last week at the Auckland Netball Centre. 📍

The expo brings organisations, community groups and support services together, making it easier for disabled people and whānau to explore the information and support available to them. 🤝

Our team was there to listen to the community’s needs, learn and share more about Vector and our approach to accessibility and inclusiom.

A special thanks to Monica Choy and Ashley Mills for helping organise the day, and to everyone from the Vector team who supported and took part, connecting with whānau and community groups.

Auckland Airport is growing and the electricity network is growing with it.

As Auckland Airport continues to expand, so does the demand for reliable electricity.

We're helping support the airport’s growth by increasing the electricity supply capacity from 25 MVA to 50 MVA through new 33kV infrastructure, switchgear, upgraded network connections and a third route for electricity to reach the airport precinct.

Most travellers will never see this infrastructure, but it plays an important role in helping power one of New Zealand's busiest transport hubs as it continues to evolve.

The project will also help support the future development of the Mangere South Zone Substation, strengthening the network for the years ahead.

We're pleased to be helping support Auckland Airport's next chapter of growth.

Vector Lights shines for the launch of the brand-new City Rail Link

Vector Lights shines from 10 to 17 September, to celebrate the launch of the brand-new City Rail Link. A dedicated light and sound show will play each night from 6.30pm until midnight, every 15 minutes.

As Auckland counts down to the opening of the City Rail Link, Vector Lights tell a story of connection, progress and possibility.

The light show follows Auckland's journey as the city grows and becomes more connected. Colourful lights and moving patterns bring Auckland's transport network to life, leading to a vibrant celebration of the City Rail Link opening.

The City Rail Link is helping to create a better-connected Auckland, making it easier for people to move around the city for years to come.

Get together with friends and whānau to watch Vector Lights from your favourite viewing spots around Tāmaki Makaurau and head to vector.co.nz/lights to listen to the soundtrack live.

Ever wondered what those green boxes around Auckland actually do? 🟩🟩

You see them beside roads, near shops and around local neighbourhood 👀

Inside is a piece of equipment called a distribution transformer, which helps change high voltage electricity down to a lower voltage so it’s safe to use in your home, school or business. ⚡

We’ll take a closer look in the next video with Vector Limited’s transformer expert, Chris Bateup.
