We have been providing specialist advice and deep-seated support to clients across New Zealand for over 40 years. Penberthy has been founded on the fundamentals of building long term relationships with our clients, insurers and lenders so we can provide expert industry advice in a personalised and professional manner. Insurance brokers are advisors, and Penberthy acknowledges that clients must have confidence in the people and the company they choose as their professional advisors. We appreciate that the ‘front end’ of Financial Services is a vital part of business delivery, as is the surety of identifying and providing the most appropriate advice and protection. Penberthy is owned and managed by the Directors who work within the business and are involved directly in providing advice and service to our clients. We are proud of being a New Zealand business and support our local community whilst still being able to offer comprehensive options and professional advice required.

What is the true value of medical insurance?
Yes, it brings you peace of mind, knowing you have protection in place should you or someone you love need medical treatment.
But there’s another vitally important benefit – choice. Particularly when it comes to when and where you receive treatment. And the 'when' shouldn't be underestimated.
With the current strains on our public health system, delays in accessing care aren’t just inconvenient – they can drastically affect your health outcomes, your livelihood, and your ability to take care of your loved ones.
Ask yourself this - If you became seriously ill, how would lengthy treatment delays affect your health, your family or your ability to run your business? From the personal impact to the potential consequences for your business, it's worth thinking about before you need it.
In our article we explore why Medical Insurance can make such a difference for individuals, families and businesses.

What makes a business resilient?
It’s not the absence of risk. Every business faces it through its people, operations, assets, technology, contracts and the unexpected events that no business owner can completely control.
Real resilience is knowing where those vulnerabilities lie and having a plan for what happens next. Could you continue operating if your premises were suddenly unavailable? What would happen if a key person couldn't work? How exposed would you be to a cyber incident, liability claim or prolonged interruption? And, importantly, has the protection you put in place several years ago kept pace with the business you have today?
These aren't simply insurance questions. They're business questions.
At Penberthy, we believe good insurance advice starts with understanding the business … what has changed, what matters most, where the risks lie and what could materially affect your ability to keep moving forward. Because a resilient business isn't one where nothing goes wrong. It's one that's prepared when it does.
If it's been a while since you've reviewed your business risks and insurance programme, we’re here to help you, every step of the way.

A relatively small investment of time can be incredibly valuable in business.
Our Commercial Broker, Ilan Wisenberg, recently spoke with Insurance Business about something he’s seeing more and more - business owners are busy, priorities compete for attention, and finding time to sit down and talk about insurance can easily slip down the list.
But there’s real value in that conversation.
Even a 30-minute, one-on-one catch-up with your broker gives you the opportunity to talk about what’s changed in your business, where you’re heading, whether your insurance still reflects the risks you face today and whether there’s any aspects that should be attended to.
Because businesses change, risks change, and sometimes the most important gaps aren’t obvious until you take the time to talk them through.
Could 30 minutes be one of the smartest investments you make in your business this year? We think so.

Five years beside us.
Recently, we celebrated five years of John Ah Kuoi being part of the Penberthy team. As a Financial Adviser specialising in Life and Medical Insurance, John brings a wealth of experience and a genuine commitment to looking after his clients and helping them make good decisions for their future. He also believes in adding value, in everything he does.
“I really enjoy what I do. My relationship with Mark and John goes way back and the team here are great to work with. To me, family’s more important than anything, and Penberthy genuinely does feel and act like a family.”
We believe milestones are worth celebrating. They’re a chance to pause, say thank you, and remind our people just how much we value them.
We’re lucky to have you as part of our team, John.
Here’s to five years … and many more to come.

It’s probably not the most glamorous part of what we do … looking into the fine print. But it’s a pretty important one.
Because often it’s the little things buried in a policy that can make a big difference when you actually need it. So, we ask plenty of questions.
We look closely at what’s covered (and what isn’t). And we take the time to understand what you’re actually trying to protect before recommending anything. Sometimes that means spotting something that’s been overlooked. Sometimes it means questioning whether existing cover is still right. And sometimes it’s simply making sure you understand what you’ve got.
Why? Because for almost 50 years our ethos has steadfastly been “doing what’s right.” And, after all that time, we know where to look.

Some loyalties are worth putting aside for the day.
John, Mark and Richard may all be proud Westlake Boys alumni, but when someone in the wider Penberthy family makes an Auckland First XV final, you know who you’re backing.
This season, we were proud to sponsor Nikau Unoi-Wright, nephew of our Claims Manager Trudy, as part of the Kelston Boys High School First XV campaign.
John headed along to Eden Park to cheer the team on in the Auckland 1A First XV final … and what a result, with Kelston taking out the title. A fantastic achievement for Nikau, his teammates, coaches and everyone behind them throughout the season.
Congratulations to the Kelston Boys First XV. We were very proud to be in your corner, even if John did have to temporarily forget where he went to school!

Trust, built over time.
It’s something Lily Lee understands very well.
With more than 25 years in the insurance industry, and some clients who have been with her for close to 20 of those years, Lily has built her career around relationships.
For Lily, being a Life & Medical Insurance Adviser starts with getting to know the person sitting in front of her. Understanding their life, their family, their circumstances and what matters most to them. Then taking that understanding and turning it into advice and protection that is genuinely right for them.
Perhaps that’s why joining Penberthy feels like such a natural fit.
Lily’s path into insurance wasn’t actually planned. After coming to New Zealand, she completed a degree in Tourism and Marketing before spotting a recruitment advert for an insurance company. She applied, undertook the training and, as she says, has never looked back.
“I love meeting people face to face and really getting to understand their situation. Everyone is different, so every day is interesting and every client brings a different challenge.”
There’s nothing more rewarding for Lily than going the extra mile for a client and seeing the advice and protection she helped put in place do exactly what it was intended to do when they need it most.
Before joining Penberthy, Lily ran her own insurance brokerage. Becoming part of Penberthy means the clients she has looked after for many years now also have the expertise and support of the wider Penberthy team around them … something Lily sees as a real advantage for their future. She’s also enjoying meeting new Penberthy clients and beginning to build those same trusted relationships.
For Lily, trust has always been at the heart of good advice. That makes her a very natural fit for Penberthy, and we’re delighted to have her on the team.

Back in 1977, Bruce Penberthy started a small insurance business on Auckland’s North Shore. Over the years, sons Richard, John and Mark joined him.
And while the business grew and changed, some things never did - the importance of family, looking after people, doing what you say you’ll do ... and, above all, doing what’s right.
Today, the three brothers carry on what their Dad started nearly 50 years ago.
This Father’s Day, we’re simply taking the opportunity to say thanks, Bruce, for starting something pretty special.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads and father figures who inspire us and mean so much to their families.
