Back in my happy place, race tracks and race bikes.

Made amazing progress with Honda Motul Racing NZ ‘s CBR650R. Threw on a set of new Bridgestone Moto NZ V02 slicks and imminently found a solid pace.

There’s only more time to come, thanks to Xavier and Morgy bear for the support so far

First Photo tells the story of the day, lots of red flags and general pandemonium, we only got about 2 sessions worth of useful riding.

That said, it’s the nature of trackdays, and the positives are that we made a few steps in the right direction. Data shows I’m getting more comfortable on the bike and I know there’s more to come, just gotta keep plugging away at it.

Massive thanks as always to Honda Motul Racing NZ and Robert from KSS NZ for the remote support with suspension.

More testing to come in early October, which means more gains to be found! 😁

T Minus 20 minutes to session 1, excited to be back out on the Honda Motul Racing NZ CBR650 running the ever reliable Bridgestone Moto NZ V02 Slicks.

We’ll work throughout the day to develop the bike and rider, hopefully some pace to be found!

Auckland Motorcycle Club – Round 1 – Race Report

Photos – Ninja Photography

Finally, no longer winter, days aren’t 70% darkness and we get to race motorcycles without needing thermal layers!

Despite some major setbacks less than a week ago, the entire team pulled together to make sure we had a bike to test this weekend. Massive thanks especially to Harriet for shipping fairings from her South Island bike for me to use, Mitch and Tony for preparing the bike and Wayne for running around like a headless chicken to organize everything.

The Auckland Motorcycle Club series really important for us as it’s the only testing opportunities we’ll get leading up to the very important Suzuki Serries and New Zealand Superbike Series. With a brand new bike, getting it dialed efficiently is paramount as we need the package working well in order to take it to the competition.

Our day was delayed and set back by a rather serious oil spill that affected the entire race track. Qualifying and the first few races was incredibly sketchy, lap times weren’t reflective of the pace we had, and having to miss every single apex made dialing in the bike rather difficult.

Regardless, we made solid improvements as each race went on. I’m super happy with the direction we progressed in and how the bike was at the end of the day vs the start of the day.

We started off about 3 seconds a lap off ideal race pace and ended the day within a second of the ideal time. Taking into account optimal track conditions and increased development, I’m really excited and confident to see the results I believe we can achieve.
We’ll see what the future holds, thanks to Honda for this opportunity!

First half of complete, and a pretty decent trophy haul! To be honest, given I was on a SS300 in round 1, a Pro Twin in round 2 and a Sportbike in round 3, I wasn’t expecting a single top 3 overall in any class, let alone 3!!!

Super stoked with the event and organisation that’s gone on behind the scenes to make this cup happen, really excited to continue with the second half of the North Island Cup at AMCC round 1 in September!

P3 - Pro Twin
P3 - F3
P3 - Intermediate

As always, thanks to the sponsors:
