Now the characteristic Gesture design from the '50s is also available as a sculptural lounge chair. Behind the popular form-stressed design is the renowned Danish architect Hans Olsen, who created both a dining table chair and a lounge chair based on the same basic principle.

The BMF candle holder is among the most iconic candle holder designs of the 1970s. The graphic candle holder was designed by architect Werner Stoff and originally produced by the Nagel company in the late 1960’s, but shortly after its launch it was handed over to the BMF company and produced from 1971 to 1985.

This crackle-glazed ceramic relief by Gidon Bing has a calm quality, where form is built through softened recesses, raised edges, and carefully balanced negative space. The work feels shaped as much by removal as by addition, with the surface pressed, carved, or modelled into a quiet rhythm of vertical and rounded forms. The glaze is central to the piece. Its fine crackle pattern gives the surface a subtle tension. It feels tactile and architectural, but still soft and handmade. Gidon Bing is available from Good Form.

Discovered on Instagram, Segni Minimi, which translated means “simple marks” is a collection of drawings on paper. Essential, abstract and geometric designs where lines, figures and fields of colour overlay each other. Translated into rug form for CC-Tapis by Italian Designer Giuseppe Di Costanzo and hand-knotted by Tibetan artisans using time-honoured techniques. CC-Tapis is exclusively available from Good Form.

Thanks so much for joining us last week for our celebration! From the very small beginnings we are grateful to everyone who has visited and supported us through the years in so many ways and the dozens of team members who have helped us to shape what it looks like today.

Special mention goes out to Dan's parents who have worked with us for over a decade doing all manner of things from applying finish or fixing veneer to learning how to create new rope cord seats for chairs. We also thank our specialist suppliers in upholstery and restoration along with freight partners hauling trucks throughout the country.

We are very humbled to meet and partner with so many dedicated design companies from New Zealand and all over the world who send us their wonderful objects every week. A number of these are still family owned from the mid-century period all the way back to our first furniture partner, Ercol who is now over 100 years in business.

This paints an astonishing contrast to the newest maker to join us who is employing 3D print technology to produce objects that could not be conceived of 100 years ago. However the mission remains the same – to create objects with meaning, relevance and future value. We are so appreciative of our audience of customers who have joined us on this journey towards good design.
