Last week we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori in classes throughout the school. Students practised the language through writing, speaking, reading and the arts.
Here is a collection of the work that has been done.

Congratulations to Louisa C, Ella C and Chloe C who are in the show from Howick Intermediate. A past student Mandy B is Charlotte.

Charlottes Web
The heartwarming bond between a young pig and his human friend is at the centre of one of several upcoming shows by students at Howick Children’s and Youth Theatre (HCYT).

They’re staging four performances of the classic children’s tale Charlotte’s Web at Harlequin Theatre in Howick in September.

Each performance runs for about 90 minutes and they’re suitable for children aged five and older.

Based on EB White’s beloved classic novel, Charlotte’s Web tells the story of Wilbur, a young pig who’s saved by his kind-hearted human friend Fern and a clever spider named Charlotte.

During his time on the farm, Wilbur meets a host of friendly farm animals and discovers the true meaning of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice.

While some of the students have had the challenge of portraying larger-than-life animal characters, exploring their movements, mannerisms and personalities, every member of the cast has worked hard to create believable and engaging characters.

“Charlotte’s Web of those stories that’s timeless,” director Michelle Field says.

“Parents and grandparents will already be familiar with the book and possibly the film versions, so it’s fantastic to bring the story to the stage and introduce it to a new generation.”

The shows are at 1.30pm and 3.30pm on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, at Harlequin Theatre, 563 Pakuranga Road.

Tickets cost $10 per person and can be purchased by emailing [email protected]. More information is online at www.hcyt.org.nz.

On 16 September 2026, our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams competed in the SEZ Basketball Tournament at Bruce Pulman Arena. Both teams played many exciting games throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship. When they were not playing, the students enthusiastically cheered each other on from the sidelines.
It was a fantastic day filled with energy, encouragement and fun, and everyone represented our school with pride!

On Wednesday the 16th of September, our performance Rōpū for Kapa Haka visited Howick Baptist Home to perform for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. The rōpū did 3 performances in different areas of the village supported by Whaea Sheryn and Matua Hemi. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the students performance. We ended with a quick bite of Kai before retuning to school.
