We’re thrilled that Box Studio and Box Build have taken home 2 Golds at this year’s Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

These awards are a recognition of the design thinking, craftsmanship and collaboration that goes into creating exceptional homes, from the first sketch through to the final detail.

But above all, we’re incredibly grateful to our clients for trusting us with their homes and for allowing us to enter these two very special projects into the awards.

Every home begins with a vision. It’s our job to listen, challenge, refine and bring that vision to life - creating homes that are not only beautiful, but thoughtfully designed around the people who live in them.

A steep coastal block on Waiheke's eastern end. A wish for something that felt like a resort, but rooted in the land. The result: a home that asks you to slow down, step outside, and really feel the bush around you.

A classic 1930s brick bungalow, thoughtfully reimagined for modern family living.

Behind the original character façade, a striking gabled addition creates a light-filled kitchen, dining and living space where every detail has been carefully considered. Warm walnut cabinetry,marble and seamless micro-cement floors come together to create a home that feels calm, refined and timeless.

This project is a reminder that great architecture isn't about doing more, it's about making every design decision count.

Downsizing is not always about living smaller.
Sometimes it is about designing more carefully. For Katherine and David, leaving their Devonport villa led to a new beachside home that needed to work for two people most of the time - and many more at any given moment.

The brief was practical and deeply personal: a four-bedroom home that would not feel oversized day to day, with a ground-floor bedroom for visiting elderly parents, enough flexibility for adult children to return, and open-plan living that connected easily to the pool and deck. As Katherine says, “We wanted something with a beachy, natural feel.

”The best proof of flexibility? Two sons have already moved back in! The house has adapted, with humour intact - even if the pantry now contains umpteen bottles of Jif and six bottles of fish sauce. Good design does not try to freeze family life in place. It gives it room to unfold.
