They’re here! Two brand new puzzles have just joined the Antipodes Collection. 🧩

Kōkako & Tūī and Tūī & Kingfisher bring together some of Aotearoa’s beautiful native birds with Australian botanicals, layered through colour, pattern and plenty of detail.

The Antipodes Collection is inspired by the shared landscape between Aotearoa and Australia, and the connections between the flora and fauna of both places. I wanted these puzzles to carry that same feeling, giving you a chance to spend some time inside the artwork rather than simply looking at it.

There’s something very satisfying about watching a puzzle take shape. Finding a bird, joining up a patch of colour, working out where that tiny piece you’ve been searching for belongs.

Each puzzle has 1000 pieces and measures 50 × 70cm when complete. Perfect for a quiet afternoon, a rainy weekend or a table shared with family and friends.

I’ve been exploring a new scale with my original works and these six new Secret Garden pieces are just the beginning.

At 70 × 70cm, they sit somewhere between my larger statement works and a size that feels more considered for the home. They’re framed in crisp white tray frames, keeping the focus firmly on the artwork.

Working at this scale has given me a different way to play with the layers, detail and colour that make up my work. I’ve been able to pack a lot into these pieces while keeping the compositions bold and giving the colour plenty of space to shine.

SUMBA: An Indonesian Art Residency Retrospective by FLOX & SWEATS

JOIN US FOR OPENING NIGHT - 5:30pm at Eyes on Fire Gallery, 15 Great North Road, Grey Lynn.

Born from our shared Artist in Residence experience on the Indonesian island of Sumba, this exhibition brings together the work we created during our time there and the ideas that continued to evolve after returning to Aotearoa.

For three weeks, we lived and worked in Sumba, immersed in a landscape rich with tradition, ceremony and a deeply rooted relationship between people and place. Encounters with local communities, traditional architecture, ikat weaving, indigenous flora and fauna and the rhythms of everyday island life became the foundation for the work created during the residency.

Returning to Aotearoa, the experience continued to resonate. The memories, observations and connections formed in Sumba became a lens through which we could look again at home. Through our respective practices, we began exploring ideas of whenua, ancestry, nourishment, gathering, remembrance and belonging, and the ways our relationship with land and community shapes how we understand home.

The exhibition brings together the original Sumba works with new works created in Aotearoa as a continuation of that experience. Māori references sit alongside memories and observations from Sumba, not as an attempt to merge two distinct cultures but to acknowledge the threads of connection we experienced between them. The ways people gather, cultivate, honour those who came before, celebrate together and maintain relationships with the natural world.

Rendered through our own distinct visual languages of pattern, symbolism, flora, fauna and hand worked forms, the work is a reflection of an experience that began far from home and ultimately offered a new lens through which to consider home itself.

Two artists. Two places. Two distinct practices. One shared experience that continues to unfold.

I love the idea of artwork becoming part of everyday life and that was a big part of the thinking behind the Antipodes XL Shopper.

For this collection, I brought together birds from across the Tasman that I’ve always found so striking. One features the deep, distinctive kōkako from Aotearoa alongside the vibrant pink cockatoo from Australia, while the other captures a kingfisher in flight. I wanted both artworks to feel rich and layered, with plenty of colour, pattern and detail to discover.

The XL Shopper is intentionally generous in size, lightweight and easy to fold, with a durable wipe-clean fabric that makes it as practical as it is colourful. It’s the kind of bag you can throw over your shoulder and fill with whatever the day brings.
