🌳It was a special milestone as we unveiled a plaque to mark the replanting of two trees, which were the first to be planted by former mayor of Papakura, George Hawkins and Sir John Walker in the Children's Forest in 1985.

Over the coming months, we'll review and analyse all submissions, finalise the plan, and share it with you once it's been adopted.
Every submission helps shape the future of our community and highlights what matters most to local people. We appreciate everyone who took the time to have their say.

🌳Yesterday, we unveiled a plaque at the Children's Forest in Settlement Reserve, marking the replenishment of the first two trees planted by former Papakura Mayor George Hawkins Sr and Sir John Walker. This was a tradition that saw a tree planted for every child born in Papakura from 1985 until the forest reached capacity. We celebrated the milestone with George Hawkins Sr himself, Sir John's family and members of the board.

🗺️🪧We're recognising the rich history of our area by adopting more new names for our parks, shared by Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua, Ngāti Tamaoho, Te Aakitai Waiohua and Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki. Discover whether your local park has a new name and the story behind it. These names help connect us to the people, places and history that have shaped our communities.
Twenty-five new chapters added to Papakura’s story Papakura has adopted twenty-five new park names, shared by Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua, Ngāti Tamaoho, Te Aakitai Waiohua and Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki.
