I turned this bottle shape and gave it overall a hint of Cubism to its design, with the hand cut face attached to it. I also hand burnt the designs onto the bottle and facial features. The whole piece is made from New Zealand Kauri wood and stands 26cm tall.

The bottle shape I turned from one piece of Macrocarpa wood and
it is 24 cm tall. The design is burnt (pyrography) onto the main area and purple metallic paint added to highlight. The attached lid is hand carved and burnt.

I turned and carved this Christmas tree made from Macrocarpa wood. It is 25cm tall.
Usually turned trees are graduated horizontal levels; but I carved out ripples on each level to give a wavy look. The gifts under the tree are all hand carved. There are rows of glass beads around each level. All other colour is hand painted. Silver charms add to the Christmas charm.
Next time I would use a wood with less grain change showing so the waves show up better from a front view.

I call this my Topsy Tervy bowl as it can sit either side. I turned this from Rimu wood which turned out to be a terrible piece of wood so I had to hide the breakout etc with burning and paint as much as I could. I should have ditched it after turning it, but I loved the shape so carried on. It is 21cm wide. Thanks to Mike for the inspiration on making it.

For Sale... see full details in my website: http://www.jmddesigns.co.nz/store/p117/Wooden_Love_Potion_Bottle.html
This potion bottle I imagine sitting on the shelf of a 17th century apothecary. I turned the shape on my lathe and then hand carved the sides. Then pyrography (burnt lines) for the words and embellishment. The bottle is 17cm tall made from Totara a native New Zealand wood. Finished with Danish Oil. Note the bottle is solid wood, with a cork stopper in the top,
Front words: “LOVE POTION – Attracts the right kind at the right time.”
Back Words: “I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time”.
The quote on the back is from the Glen Campbell song: The Lineman.

This is my Church Vase. The shape was turned and then holes drilled into the wood. Then the center was drilled out with a forstner bit. Then HEAPS of carving and sanding. Not sure what the wood is. 20cm tall.

This wooden Rimu bottle I turned on my lathe and then hand felted the Koru design on the front and the Southern Cross on the back with New Zealand wools, I then hand stitched the highlights on the felt and sewed on glass beads. I did pyrography (burnt) down the sides in a Maori design which depicts Mother and Child. It is 16cm tall.

This “Ode to Mother Nature” is 20cm tall. I turned the shape on my lathe and did pyrography to define the design shapes and then carved out the design shapes. I then hand needle felted New Zealand wool into the design shapes and adhered them in place. I carved 3 eggs to sit in the nest.

The 15cm tall bottle I turned and then carved out the front. The fuchsia flowers and leaves are made from hand stitched Needlelace I made, that has wire around their edges and then hand stitched over; there is no fabric backing.
