Overall manufacturing revenue fell 6% in the UK, 33% in Australia and 9% in New Zealand year on year.

Those figures suggest a broadly difficult market, but they don’t reflect every industries experience.

Personal care revenue grew 32% in the UK, 85% in Australia and 46% in New Zealand. Construction revenue, meanwhile, fell by more than 40% in all three markets.

A national average can show which way the wider market is moving. It can’t tell manufacturers whether their sector is following it, or what other businesses are doing with their margins, inventory and purchasing.

That’s why we built the Manufacturing Health Index.

Using anonymised transaction data from 1,578 SME manufacturers across 12 sectors, it provides a more useful benchmark for understanding performance across the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and within each individual sector.
