⚠️ “IT'S MY TREE — CAN I JUST CUT IT DOWN?”

This is something we hear all the time.

And the answer isn't always as simple as yes. 🌳

Being the property owner doesn't necessarily mean every tree can automatically be removed or significantly pruned.

There may be rules or restrictions that apply depending on:

🌿 The type of tree
📍 Where it's located
🏡 The property and surrounding area
✂️ The type and extent of work proposed

We've seen homeowners get themselves into trouble by assuming they can simply remove a tree because it's on their property.

Our advice?

👉 Check first. Cut second.

Getting the right advice before starting work can save you a lot of stress — and potentially a very expensive mistake!

💬 Did you know this? Or did you always assume that if it was your property, it was your tree to do whatever you wanted with?

🌺 POHUTUKAWA — BEAUTIFUL, PROTECTED & NOT ALWAYS STRAIGHTFORWARD

Pōhutukawa are one of Aotearoa's most iconic trees — and they're a common sight across Auckland.

But when it comes to pruning, removing or carrying out work around a mature pōhutukawa, it's important to know the rules before picking up the chainsaw. 🌿

Depending on the tree, its location and the work proposed, restrictions or consent requirements may apply.

🌳 That's why professional advice matters.

At Climb Above, we have extensive experience working with mature pōhutukawa and understand the importance of carrying out tree work properly, safely and in accordance with the applicable requirements.

⚠️ If you're unsure whether you can prune or remove a pōhutukawa on your property, don't guess.

Ask first. Cut second.

⚠️ DEAD TREES CAN BE MORE DANGEROUS THAN THEY LOOK

A dead or dying tree isn't necessarily an immediate emergency - but as the tree deteriorates, branches can become brittle, unstable and more likely to fail.

🌳 Warning signs to look out for:

• Dead branches, particularly larger limbs
• Cracks or splits in the trunk
• Fungal growth or mushrooms around the base
• Hollow or decaying sections
• Large sections of deadwood in the canopy
• Loose or hanging branches
• Changes in the tree's lean or structure

⚠️ Dead trees near homes, driveways, vehicles, powerlines or areas where people gather deserve particular attention.

Don't wait for a branch to come down to find out there's a problem.

Our experienced fully insured arborists can assess the tree and advise you on the safest and most appropriate solution.
