some of our lyricists in action writing for our up & coming track! They were spitballing ideas and coming up with verses for the song, but one mutual theme remained.
The beauty of the islands 🏝️ the oceans 🌊 the sky 🌌 and coral reefs 🪸 super catchy if you ask me😛
tune coming 🔜
Beautiful vocals from one of our Island Base 🏝️ mentee’s 🎵

Some of our rangatahi going through chords + writing lyrics for our song! The islands were a big inspo for this track as over 90% of our Mahurangi rangatahi are from Kiribati 🏝️ which is huge for us as most of our rangatahi that we see weekly are Maori, Samoan and Tongan 🎉
having such a pronounced Kiribas group has been so cool, learning some of the lingo and watching our rangatahi incorporate their language into past tracks (like summer vacay by vibez) has been absolutely beautiful☝🏽☝🏽
We’re so excited to share this track with everyone ⭐️

Some behind the scenes of our rangatahi creating beautiful melodies for our upcoming track! We had so many talented instrumentalist we thought it would be such a huge waste to not record some of their playing and ultimately produce the whole track ourselves.
Almost all of the Mahurangi rangatahi knew at-least one instrument, from ukulele, guitar, piano, drums or they just had beautiful voices 🎉🙌🏾
For many of our youth we know how scary and challenging it can be to put yourself out there, especially with music and singing in front of peers, but we were so impressed with these guys constantly putting their hands up to record ❤️
Track coming 🔜 🌴

We were super fortunate to have Simon Abela Simon Abela as our second mentor for our Mahurangi Holiday programme 🌴 Simon is an amazing producer and guitarist and worked alongside our previous mentor Noah Slee as his producer!
For our new track with our Mahurangi rangatahi Simon and his group worked on producing the beat as well! mainly focusing on guitar and vocals. This is our first ever Island Base original song where everything you hear is made from scratch, from lyrics, the entire beat, vocals and then mixing and mastering done by our mentors ❤️
We couldn’t be prouder of this bunch ☝🏽

For our first day back with our rangatahi at Mahurangi College we had such a treat to have our longtime mentor Jason Eli as one of our facilitators for the holiday programme!
He worked with a group to create the drum line/ some bits of ukulele for our upcoming track in collaboration with our Mahurangi rangatahi.🌴 'We were super inspired by some island reggae and decided to go in a similar direction with our own track, slower bpm, heavy bass/ drums & more groove.' 💃
We’re so excited to see how it all comes together🎉
