BESA had an incredible time visiting the University of Auckland’s Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) and Luma Analytics. From exploring innovative research to learning how data and technology create real-world impact, the day was filled with valuable insights and inspiration.

Jane Street is coming to UoA for a Machine Learning Talk!!

Machine learning in an applied setting often goes quite differently than in the classroom or a purely research environment. Inspired by a variety of real life examples from finance and beyond, we’ll discuss some ways LLMs and other deep learning models can go off the rails in surprising ways.

This October, Jane Street is excited to host their First-year Trading and Technology Program (FTTP). They are inviting current first-year undergraduates to learn more about what they do and how they do it through a series of talks, games, activities, and events.

This is an incredible opportunity for first-year students planning to study math, physics, computer science, or other STEM-related majors. No prior knowledge of finance is necessary — if you like solving problems, have a curious mind, and want to see what a career at Jane Street might look like — this program is for you.

Attendees will arrive in Hong Kong on September 30th and depart on October 3rd. Jane Street will cover all travel expenses to and from Hong Kong, including housing and meals.

The deadline to apply for FTTP is Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 at 11:59pm HKT. All applicants will receive an update on their application on Friday, September 4th, regardless of when you submitted your application.
