The Conservation Amendment Bill is currently before the Environment Committee — and submissions close THIS THURSDAY, 2 July at 11:59pm.

This bill proposes significant changes to the Conservation Act 1987, including:
- Enabling more development on conservation land
- Replacing existing management plans with a single National Conservation Policy Statement
- Streamlining concession processes
- Introducing 'visitor amenity areas' for recreational development

Mark is the heart and soul behind AdventureWorks, and this recognition reflects a lifetime of extraordinary service to the outdoor sector in Aotearoa. From building qualification pathways that have shaped an entire generation of outdoor professionals, to championing adaptive mountain biking so that everyone — regardless of ability — can experience the joy of the outdoors, Mark leads by lifting others up.

What makes Mark truly special isn't just what he's built — it's how he builds it. With generosity, humility, and a deep care for people. He's the kind of leader who checks in on your wellbeing first, who funds your qualifications, who trusts you to find your own way to te marama.

His own journey — returning to lead AdventureWorks after a spinal cord injury in 2015, crediting his team's survival of the business to the culture of purpose he'd cultivated — says everything about the man he is.
