Buying a motorhome? Don't forget about the warranty.

When you're looking at purchasing a motorhome, it is easy to focus on the layout, features, price and where you're going to take it first. But there is another important question worth asking before you buy.

Who will look after you if something goes wrong?

Motorhome warranties are provided by the manufacturer, but your dealer plays an important role in managing warranty matters. If you purchase your motorhome from a dealer, that dealer is generally your first point of contact should you need assistance with a warranty issue.

This is something to keep in mind if you're considering importing a motorhome from overseas.

You might think that because the same brand is sold by a New Zealand dealer, you will automatically be able to take your imported motorhome there if something goes wrong. However, a New Zealand dealer is not necessarily responsible for a motorhome that was purchased through an overseas dealer.

Your warranty claim may need to go back through the original dealer you purchased the motorhome from. Depending on where that dealer is located, this can make the process more complicated and may involve additional communication, time and costs.

For us at Deluxe RV Group, we believe the relationship doesn't finish when you drive away from our yard.

Buying a motorhome is a big investment, and having a local dealer you can come back to for help, advice and warranty support is an important part of that purchase.

So when you're comparing motorhomes, don't just ask "What does it cost?"

Ask "Who will be here to help me after I've bought it?"

That's something worth knowing before you sign on the dotted line.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out on the road and having a little more freedom to explore New Zealand, you really need to come and have a look at our Atlas Caravans at Deluxe RV Group.

Atlas is a brand we deliberately chose after doing a lot of research into what we wanted to offer our customers. They are Australian owned, designed and manufactured in Melbourne, and built with a real focus on strength, practicality, comfort and off grid capability. We actually went over to Melbourne and saw the production for ourselves before bringing the brand to New Zealand, because for us, it is important to know exactly what we are selling and who is building it.

And now they are here at Deluxe.

One of the things we love about the Atlas range is that there is no single layout trying to suit everyone. We have a selection of layouts available, so whether you are travelling as a couple, heading away with friends or planning family adventures, there is a layout worth exploring.

And yes, we have a family option with THREE bunks!

The Atlas RVO216 CD Family 3 Bunk is designed with families in mind, giving you an island bed for the adults and a separate triple bunk area for the kids. It also has a spacious lounge, separate shower and toilet area, large 224 litre compressor fridge, 400 amp lithium battery system, 400 watt solar, 3000 watt inverter, diesel heating, instant hot water and 190 litre fresh and grey water tanks. It is also self contained approved, making it a very capable setup for getting out and enjoying New Zealand without needing to be plugged into everything all the time.

Then there are our other Atlas layouts for couples and adventurers, including centre door, rear door, rear club and different sleeping configurations.

Underneath, Atlas is just as impressive.

The caravans feature an aluminium frame, composite aluminium walls, a one piece fibreglass roof and a one piece honeycomb floor. They are built on a DuraGal protected steel chassis and our New Zealand specified RVO models come with Cruisemaster XT coil suspension and our RVX models come with 3.5R XT Cruisemaster airbag suspension. We also specify ALKO electronic stability control for additional towing confidence.

There is plenty of thought that has gone into the practical side too. Large storage areas, toolbox storage, solar, lithium power, generous water capacity and the equipment needed for more independent travel all come together in a package designed for people who actually want to use their caravan and explore.

And then there is the bit you really cannot appreciate properly from a photo...

You need to walk inside one.

Open the cupboards. Have a look underneath. Check out the storage. Sit in the lounge. Walk around the bed. Have a look at the construction and the suspension. Get a feel for the space.

Because buying a caravan is a big decision, and we don't expect you to choose one from a few photographs online. However this has happened.
