Your best summer probably won’t be built in summer.

It’ll be built now.

In the slightly awkward shoulder season when things are starting to wake up, but we’re not quite in the chaos yet.

This is when you fix the website before everyone starts Googling.

Build familiarity before everyone starts buying.

Sort the pricing before the diary fills up.

Work out what you actually want more of before you start saying yes to everything.

And put the systems in place so that when summer does its thing, you can actually enjoy the growth rather than being completely flattened by it.

Because anyone can be busy in summer.

The goal is to be busy with the right work, at the right price, with a business that can actually handle it.

Summer is coming.

And 2027 isn’t far behind.

Let’s make it bigger, better, more profitable — and considerably less chaotic.

Send me a message to get started.

Turns out, being good at business and being good at your job are two VERY different skill sets.

A few confessions from my rookie business-owner era…

I underpriced because I wanted the job.

Overpromised because I wanted to impress.

Thought more followers and more reach automatically meant more business.

Focused on marketing without asking enough questions about what was happening behind the scenes.

And probably the biggest one: I thought far too short term.

I wanted to know how we could make something work now.

These days, I’m far more interested in what happens next year. And the year after that.

What are we actually trying to build?
Is it profitable?
Do you even want more of the work we’re marketing?
Does your pricing stack up?
Is your website doing its job?

Are we fixing the actual problem — or just making it look prettier on Instagram?

And sometimes, the conversation goes even deeper than that.

Because business strategy and mindset are very, very difficult to separate.

I’m still figuring plenty of it out. I hope I always am.

But I reckon I’m asking much better questions these days.

If you’ve got bigger goals for 2027, let’s make it one for the books.

Let’s talk about real humans finding you today👇🏽

The stats on the screen are from a real travel website we’ve been working on over the past couple of months.

AI search traffic is up more than 600%.

Not over ten years. Not since ChatGPT launched. Over a matter of months.

And it reflects a much bigger shift: AI search usage has grown by around 70% globally in the past year, while the traffic AI platforms send to websites has increased by hundreds of percent across some industries.

Google hasn’t packed up its desk and gone home. But the way people search is changing—quickly.

People aren’t just searching “best w**e tour Central Otago” anymore. They’re asking:

“What’s the best private w**e tour in Central Otago for a couple who loves organic w**e and wants something relaxed but premium?”

They want one genuinely useful answer, tailored to exactly what they’re looking for.

So, how do we help AI understand—and recommend—your brand?

* Clear metadata and page descriptions
* Useful FAQ pages answering real customer questions
* Detailed, genuinely helpful blog articles
* Specific service and location pages
* Structured data, internal links and technically sound websites
* Consistent messaging about what you do, who you help and why you’re different

It isn’t about stuffing “AI” into everything or writing robotic content for robots.

It’s about making your expertise incredibly clear, useful and easy to understand.

Because the question is no longer just:

Do we rank on Google?

It’s also:

When someone asks AI for exactly what we offer, do we appear in the answer?

AI search isn’t a distant marketing trend to worry about in 2029.

It’s already quietly deciding which businesses get mentioned—and which ones get missed.

I think this might be one of the most important concepts in business.

Agency.

And no, not the kind you hire to do your marketing.

Your level of agency is essentially how much you believe you can influence what happens next.

Low agency says: “That won’t work for my business.”

High agency says: “How could I make that work for my business?”

Low agency says: “People won’t pay more.”

High agency says: “What would I need to change to make this worth more?”

Low agency waits for the market, the algorithm, the economy, the right client, more time, more money or Mercury to get out of retrograde.

High agency looks at the exact same circumstances and asks:

Right. What CAN I do?

And I think this is one of the biggest differences I see between businesses that stay stuck for years and businesses that can look completely different 12 months later.

It doesn’t mean blindly believing you can control everything. You can’t.

It means taking ownership of the bits you can.

Summer is just over three months away. 2027 is just over four.

If you want your business to look almost unrecognisable next year, there is an enormous amount we can change between now and then.

Pricing. Positioning. Marketing. Offers. Systems. Strategy. Confidence.

And if you need someone to help you work out what actually needs changing, that’s quite literally what I do.

But first…

Tell me honestly: where do you reckon you sit?

Low, mid or high agency?

Let’s talk about perspective 🙌🏼

A birthday always puts things into perspective for me.

20 years ago, at 17, I started my first “official” job.

Since then I’ve worked frontline. Retail. FMCG. PR. Marketing. Start-ups. Medium-sized businesses. Colossal corporations.

Some of it was hard. Really hard.

But every job, difficult season, brilliant boss, terrible boss, big win and mistake built the foundations for where I am now.

At 37, I have a thriving business helping other businesses deliver more value, make more money and do it with less burnout.

And that’s pretty bloody beautiful.

The older I get, the more I realise that so much of what we want comes down to the timeframe we’re viewing it through.

Take your body.

If you want to be skinny by Friday, you’ll make very different decisions to someone who wants to be fitter, leaner and healthier by the end of the year.

Stronger in five years.

And still happily playing with their grandkids in their 80s.

Business is exactly the same.

If your lens is the next few weeks, you’re constantly chasing your tail.

You need the next quote, so you underprice it.

You’re busy, so you don’t improve your systems.

Cash feels tight, so you don’t invest.

It’s never the “right time” to work on the business because you’re too busy working in it.

But zoom out.

Instead of asking, “How do I make more money this month?”

Ask:

How much value could I create over the next decade?

How many people could I help?

How good could I become at what I do?

What could my business AND my life look like at 40? 50? 60?

We massively overestimate what we can change in a week.

And massively underestimate what we can build in 10 years.

Your health. Your business. Your relationships. Your life.

Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is zoom out.

Weeks become years.

Pressure becomes perspective.

And you start making very different decisions.

What decision will you change this week having read this?👇🏽 Tell me in a DM

There are people who know what you do, what you’re good at and probably quite a lot about you…

And you have absolutely no idea who they are.

Welcome to social media.

Most people aren’t creating. They’re consuming.

Quietly watching your Stories. Reading your posts. Seeing your work. Building a picture of who you are.

They might never like, comment or DM.

But over time, you become familiar.

There’s a name for this: a parasocial relationship — a one-sided sense of familiarity that develops when someone regularly consumes another person’s content, despite having little or no direct relationship with them.

For businesses and personal brands, that familiarity is incredibly valuable.

Every time you show your face, share your thinking, talk about your work or show a little real life, you’re building connection.

And familiarity reduces friction.

By the time someone enquires, meets you or gets introduced to you, you’re not really a stranger.

You don’t need to overshare.

Think breadcrumbs, not autobiography.

Be useful. Be human. Show up consistently.

Because when someone eventually needs what you do, you don’t want:

“Who could help me with this?”

You want:

“I know someone.”

That’s the bit of social media your engagement stats can’t always measure.

A Kick Up The Arse (Your Words, Not Mine) 😆

The 7 controversial ways I’ve been helping businesses this month…

The funny thing is, none of them are particularly complicated.

No secret AI prompts.
No marketing voodoo.
No “10x your revenue overnight” nonsense.

Just practical things that help good businesses get found, make more money, and enjoy running their businesses a bit more.

This month I’ve been helping people:
✔ Improve their AI visibility
✔ Create FAQ pages that generate passive traffic
✔ Get more from Facebook
✔ Use groups strategically
✔ Price more confidently
✔ Stop overthinking
✔ Been honest about where things are missing

The reality is that most businesses don’t need more information.

They need clarity.

They need confidence.

And occasionally they need … a kick up the arse 😉 (aka. someone to tell them to stop mucking around and do the thing they’ve been talking about for six months).

That’s often where I come in.

If you’re busy, overwhelmed, undercharging, overthinking, or simply feeling stuck - which of the 7 would make the biggest change in your business?

Sometimes one small change creates a surprisingly big result.

Ponder that 🤌🏼

P.s. If you don’t hear from me, it’s because I’m heading overseas for 30 days. Follow along for some fun London & European marketing insights (or just to be nosy) 😉

The first week of winter ❄️

Swipe & Read 👇🏼

Let’s get into it…

🍸 Be careful what you wish for
Got lazy and cheeky and asked Scott if he would mind making me a coffee… this is what was handed to me. Be careful what you wish for 😉

Insight: I see many businesses chasing likes, followers etc. but the truth is a few clients who work with you or buy from you long term doesn’t require that.

Side note: this photo was edited with AI - the drink is real - the background is not. Would you have guessed?

🧠 Mindset Mistake
I recently attended a Tourism Central Otago operators session. It was awesome - but I do notice that tourism operators more than most tend to ‘operate’ from a space of fear, lack and competition.

Insight: stop focusing on everyone else and you do you. It takes far less energy.

💤Sleep
A lack of sleep is one of the worst mental health downgrades there is. I am a sleep champion but Charlie has other ideas.

Insight: if you have the option to dial in your sleep, ask me for tips. It’s a wild game changer.

🏆 When it’s hard
Everyone can win when it’s easy. The trick to staying happy, healthy and running a sustainable business is learning to do so even against the tide.

Insight: the economy is wild and the weather is going to be up and down for 3 months. Stop complaining and lock in.

❤️ Charlie’s Fave New Toy…
He’s getting more collagen support than I am. Taking mum’s red light mask for walks around the house at 4am is the new game 🤦🏼‍♀️

🏔️ Change Your Environment
Need inspiration? Struggling to concentrate? Step out of your office. Whether that’s for a walk, to see people - perhaps get away from people (if you work in a busy office) or simply to change your view…

Insight: a change in environment words wonders for productivity.

Now…. What winter tips am I missing?!

Business Training & Personal Development | Central Otago & Wānaka | Central Performance Studio 27/05/2026

Know you “should” work on your marketing and systems, but keep pushing it down the to-do list?

Winter is an ideal time to upskill yourself and your team so the whole business runs more smoothly.

Business training can help you:
-Build practical marketing skills (without relying on guesswork)
-Create systems so everything doesn’t sit in your head
-Turn good intentions into consistent, organised action

Because training is tailored, not off-the-shelf, only a limited number of businesses are worked with at once. New intakes are open until 31 May 2026 – then paused until spring to focus on current businesses.

If you’d like your team to be one of the groups supported this winter, now’s the window.

To get started, email [email protected] and see if the approach fits where your business is at.

Swipe for the goods 👉🏼

Marketing in 2026 isn’t about doing more.

It’s about making more sense.

Most businesses don’t need:
more reels,
more AI tools,
or another late-night Canva session.

They need:
clearer messaging,
better positioning,
stronger visuals,
faster follow-up,
and pricing that matches the quality of what they do.

That’s what this post is about.

The 7 P’s of marketing —
without the corporate waffle.

Because good marketing isn’t just “promotion.”

It’s:
– what you sell
– how you price it
– where people find you
– how people experience your business
– and whether anyone trusts you when they get there

Also:
if your website is confusing,
your enquiry process is painful,
or your branding looks held together by panic…

ads won’t fix it.

The businesses winning attention right now are usually just:
clear,
consistent,
easy to understand,
and easy to buy from.

Simple.
Not easy.
But simple.
