One week left to nominate your local legend 💛

That's Pat Seymour and Archdeacon William Gray having a yarn at last year's Citizens Civic Awards. Both are award winners, Pat in 2025 and Archdeacon Gray in 2024. And here's the good bit: Pat helped nominate one of last year's recipients too.

That's how this works. Someone sees the mahi. Someone says something.

If you know a person, group or organisation whose voluntary service makes Tairāwhiti better, put their name forward before it's too late.

Nominations close 4pm Friday 14 August.

Have you ever dreamed of developing your musical skills under a skilled vocal coach while performing with a contemporary choir?

The newly rebranded Gisborne Vocal Collective is bringing a fresh sound to Tairāwhiti, blending modern pop, classic rock, jazz, and musical theatre favourites, all while helping singers discover the potential of their own voices.

Directed by Letitia Lindeque, the collective is built around the belief that anyone with a functional voice can learn to sing.

“I teach people how to harmonise... I’m not just giving them a part and saying, ‘You sing this.’ I’m actually teaching them how to hear harmonies and how to use their voice,” says Letitia.

From improving vocal skills to building confidence and creating new friendships, members say being part of the collective has brought joy and connection through singing together.

Think less traditional choir, more contemporary group vocals with opportunities for solos, instruments, and performances as the group grows.
