Built along the river in 1911 for Henry James Greenslade, this historic Hamilton home tells the story of a man who was a journalist, mayor, dairy farmer, MP, and owner of the Waikato Times.
Once known as Wairere, now Greenslade House, it’s a category 1 Historic Place with a story of wealth, loss, and legacy.

Join Harley as he shares the stories, sounds, and traditions behind these treasured Maaori instruments. Bring your own taonga to play and share, or simply come along to listen, learn, and connect with others who share a passion for these precious taonga.

Every voice has a story. Every instrument has a whakapapa. Come along and be part of our growing taonga puuoro community.

This photograph shows construction of the Victoria Street tunnel in the early 1960s. As traffic increased, the railway line was moved underground to reduce delays at level crossings, creating New Zealand's first underground passenger railway station.

Come along to Te Paataka at Te Koopuu Maania o Kirikiriroa Central Library every Wednesday at 3.30pm for lively waiata. These sessions will be led by Harley, a gifted musician and passionate advocate for kaupapa Maaori. Harley creates a welcoming space where everyone can learn, sing, and connect. Bring your voice. PLANNED LIBRARY SERVICES OUTAGE: To support essential system maintenance, some library services will be temporarily unavailable on Wednesday 30 September 2026, starting at 1am, for approximately 12 hours.

Please remember to bring your library card when visiting the library on these dates. During system outages, staff will need to operate in offline mode and may not be able to look up your account without your library card. The following services might be affected:
🔹 Library Catalogue
🔹 Digital Library (including BorrowBox, Libby, PressReader, and more)
🔹 Library App
🔹 Online Registration
🔹 APNK Public Computers (library card and PIN login will be unavailable; guest passes will be available)
🔹 Self-check machines and other automated devices

Our dedicated library staff will still be here to assist you as much as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we complete these important upgrades.
