15-20 years ago 140x10+ reps for 3-5 sets was an every other week volume training session in between heavy weeks...
Can I get back up there by the time I turn 50? I have two years. I'm optimistic about the possibility as long as my body can hold together π€
When you're getting old but still pretty strong and tasked with finding a way to get future generations stronger than you....
Holding a 2 & 1/2" Axle bar for heavy reps requires way more wrist and forearm control....
You gotta try different things and find ways to help them π΄
After more than 35 years training I still love the head rush after a heavy set π«’
The feel good afterwards is the gift that keeps giving day after day, month after month, year after year after year π

Morning Hamilton. Up nice n early as always π
Jade Sutton and Debbie Martin finally got back on the platform today for the first time in about 10months!
They both qualified for Nationals....
Jade was a bit hit and miss as to be expected with so long off and Deb got her share of red lights as well but still managed to chip her NZ Bench Press Record up another kg to 74kg. Good efforts today you two, you've both given me plenty to help you improve on π

Almost finished assembling a new toy for the studio π
Thomas had a solid day today at the Auckland Classic Cup.
He went 7/9 attempts and finished the day with a new Personal Best Total of 650kg. He went 3/3 on the Bench Press, on his 3rd Bench Press he pressed this solid 175kg for a new APA SJ U120kg Record.
This comp was run as an Open only comp meaning all ages competed as Open and Thomas still managed a well earned 2nd π
Was a good day, great to see Thomas and lots of other young people giving it their best on the Platform.

Last Week Thomas gave his all representing NZ @ the 2025 Oceania Powerlifting Champs for his first time.
He managed to set NZ & Oceania Bench Press Records with his best successful lift of 172.5kg on his second attempt and gave 180kg a bloody good nudge on his third attempt which unfortunately was a tad much for that day.
His results also earned him the Best Overall Sub Junior Bench Press Title which was a fitting reward for his awesome efforts.
Well-done Champ I'm looking forward to putting your record breaking photo up on the wall at the studio alongside all who've given their all on the competition platform before you βΊοΈ
Apologies for the delay in posting his results, he didn't have a picture to share (typical teenager)... He finally sent me a couple picture to share π
Thomas has 7 weeks of training left for us to extract his absolute maximum best version for his first time on the International Powerlifting Platform.
We are making good progress every week now. He will obliterate the SJ U120kg Oceania Bench Press Record, maybe even the Commonwealth Record too!
What will his attempts on the day beπ€π€π€π€
Let's show him some support as he gives his all preparing to represent NZ.
Old man strength is still there πͺ
