"My check engine light's on, does that mean it's due for a service?"
Cody hears this one a lot, and the honest answer is: not necessarily. They're actually two completely different things.
A service is on a schedule, it's due after a certain time or distance, no matter how the car's driving. The check engine light comes on when the car's computer picks up a fault somewhere in one of the modules- and that can range from something minor to something you shouldn't ignore.

Here's the part that catches people out: you can't tell which one it is just by how the car feels. It might drive perfectly normally and still have something worth looking at. The only way to actually know is to plug it in and scan it! That's how we read the fault code the car's computer has already picked up.

So if that light comes on, it's not a "wait for your next service" thing, it's worth getting scanned so you know what you're actually dealing with, one way or the other.

Winter's done a number on more cars than you'd think.
Between the wet roads and the cold snaps, we're seeing a lot of tyres worn closer to the limit than people realise, and wiper blades that have gone hard or split without anyone noticing, until the next downpour, that is.

Both are easy to check, and both matter more than people think when the roads are wet. A worn tyre or a smeary windscreen doesn't feel like a big deal, until it's raining hard on the way to school pickup or out on the open road.
If it's been a while since anyone's had a look at yours, now's a good time before the spring rain sets in properly.

A customer brought his 1994 Toyota Hilux Surf in for a WOF and service - his first 4x4, and he's keen to get the most out of it. One thing was bugging him: it just didn't feel as gutsy as he expected.
Good news!! A few of our team are genuinely into these older Hilux/Surf models, so Jono got stuck into it. Turns out there was a blocked filter sitting in front of the MAP sensor (that's the part that measures the pressure in the inlet manifold). Block that and the sensor is getting an incorrect pressure reading.
The Surf's booked back in to get that sorted, along with the rest of its WOF work and Service recommendations, so it'll be running the way he expected a 4x4 to run.

It's great to see a customer taking such care of a gem of a truck!

Give this man a coffee, a wiring diagram, and a bit of time to think, and there's not much he can't figure out. If there's a tricky fault sitting in the carpark, it's actually on his mind until it's sorted! He's not the type to knock off and forget about it.
"Diagnostics" means tracking down why something's playing up, not just what part is broken, but what's actually causing it. It's part detective work, part electrical knowledge, and it's the difference between fixing the symptom and fixing the actual problem.

Today wasn't about cars - it was about the people who work on them.
I sat down with every single member of the mechanical team for a proper one-on-one catch up. Not a quick "how's it going," but a full hour each -talking through how things are going, what's working, what could be better, and making sure everyone knows we've got their back, not just the cars we're fixing.
Highlight of the day? Luca sat down on the couch for his chat, and our giant brown lab Tiggy decided that lap was exactly where he needed to be. Fully sprawled out, completely unbothered, like he'd booked the appointment himself. 😂
We reckon a team that feels heard does better work, and a good boy on your lap doesn't hurt either.
