Here we aim to connect with individuals, businesses, schools and anyone interested in our kaupapa: to spread digital fabrication capability through Masterton and the Wairarapa. We would love you to be a part of it! Fab Lab is a global community that exists to make and share capability, not for profit. Our Fab Lab is kept sustainable via a grant and a hub-space from Masterton District Council under their Wellbeing Strategy. In here we'll post some of what we're doing and some of the useful info we come across. You can contribute to the conversation in our public "Group" page under the "More" tab. Don't be shy ;)

CNC (900x600, available outside Open Lab hours due to noise)
Pancake Bots (2x available with prior arrangement)
Heaps of microprocessor & electronics stuff

A new batch of cam wedges 3D-printed and ready to send off to the Puketoi to the Pacific Catchment Collective. What's a cam wedge you ask? It's a little doodad created by our co-founder John to help set your trail camera on just the right angle when monitoring for pests.

We've been lucky enough to help out the Fireballs Aotearoa team with their successful retrieval of fragments of the recent Masterton Meteorite. Vik and Tamara have a microscopy lab at their house (we can't fit everything in Dixon Street!) and it was the nearest place for initial handling, preparation, and examining the samples. This is the most recent find from today, with a magnified image of the broken surface.

Vik & Tamara at Fab Lab Masterton are on tap if you need a hand with your 3D printer, Arduino thingy or chemistry stuff. (Tamara teaches molecular gastronomy workshops fyi).
Of course this equipment and expertise is available to you for tinkering FREE during Open Lab on Fridays 1-5pm, next to Aratoi/Entice.

Yes indeedy, we are open this Friday 22nd May. If you have laptops that can no longer run updated Windows, we are refurbishing them with Xubuntu. This lets them still be used for Office, browsing, and all the things we do in the Fab Lab - either for yourself or perhaps donated to the needy in the community.
