LOMOcean are proud to see the 25kt Wavepiercing Firefighting Vessel ‘Ezzat’ that we completed more than 15 years ago still in service, and being the first vessel on scene to a reported drone attack involving two LNG vessels in the Damietta port a few days ago.

Congratulations to the Damietta Port Authority crews on their response, FFS - Fire Fighting Systems for their bulletproof firefighting systems equipped on Ezzat, and Mapso Marine Propulsion & Supply( Marine Division ) for putting the project together.

In 2001, we were approached and ask to design a 15m research vessel to support a wide range of scientific and commercial operations for the Leigh Marine Laboratory of the University of Auckland, to be built by local builder by Qualicraft in Matakana.

The brief called for a fast, versatile workboat with generous deck space, easy water access, and accommodation for eight researchers plus a professional skipper.

During its research career, the vessel supported everything from estuary surveys to extended expeditions to the Three Kings Islands, a remote and challenging environment known for strong currents and variable sea conditions.

To maximize utilization, Hawere was also chartered to local government and research organizations. She features a large sheltered working deck, a gantry rated to lift 750kg (proof tested to 1,000kg), and a spacious open-plan interior with up to 3 meters of headroom.

A two-level layout combines accommodation and wheelhouse spaces, while the staged cockpit was designed to support diving, dredging, sample processing, and tender operations.

A key focus of the hull design was seaworthiness. The high sheer line, flared bow, and fine forward sections were developed to deliver a comfortable ride and efficient 18-knot cruising speed while maintaining capability in exposed offshore conditions.

Having now retired from research service, Hawere continues its working life as a charter boat, operating out of Mahurangi Harbour.
