NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 5 HEATS

The final morning of racing in Christchurch is complete, with Noah Lomas and Amelia Steiner finishing off the heat sessions for Swim Rotorua.

Noah Lomas
Noah opened the morning with a 24.24 in the 50m Freestyle, 5th in his age, just 0.03 outside his entry time, before finishing his championships with a 2:17.99 in the 200m Individual Medley.

That brings Noah’s racing for the week to a close after a busy five days of racing at national level, he is now off to the 5 day national camp.

Amelia Steiner
Amelia started with a 30.41 in the 50m Freestyle Multi-Class before producing a strong 2:44.55 PB in the 200m Individual Medley Multi-Class, taking 0.57 seconds off her previous best and qualifying for tonight’s final.

Amelia will be back in action tonight for the final session of the championships, with two more opportunities to finish the week strongly.

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 4 FINALS

Another strong night of racing in Christchurch, with Noah Lomas and Amelia Steiner back in action in the 50m Backstroke.

Noah Lomas – 26.48 PB
Noah backed up his 26.58 from this morning with another personal best tonight, taking another 0.10 seconds off. A strong start, great underwater work and another step forward in a fantastic week of racing.

Amelia Steiner – 32.65
Amelia also went faster tonight, dropping 0.49 seconds from her morning swim of 33.14 to take visitor gold in the multi-class 50m Backstroke. Another strong performance and Australian Age S19 record from Amelia.

Two swims tonight and two improvements to finish off Day 4.

We head into Day 5 with two swimmers back in action for the final morning of the championships.

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 4 HEATS

A strong morning of racing for our three swimmers in the 50m Backstroke, with all three improving on their entry times!

Noah Lomas — 26.58
A great swim from Noah, dropping from his 26.75 entry time and producing a silver medal performance. He will be in the B final

Giselle Yee — 31.90
Another strong swim from Giselle, taking 0.40 seconds off her 32.30 entry time. Finishing 10th in her age.

Amelia Steiner — 33.14
A big improvement from Amelia, taking 0.75 seconds off her 33.89 entry time with another really positive swim & setting another Australian Age S19 Record.

Three swimmers, three improvements and another strong morning for the team!

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 3 FINALS

Personal bests and two fifth-place C final finishes for Swim Rotorua tonight!

Noah Lomas – 200m Backstroke: 2:09.44, a new personal best and 5th in the C final!

Giselle Yee – 200m Backstroke: 2:24.36, also a new personal best and 5th in the C final!

Amelia Steiner swam a solid 100m Butterfly Multi-Class final but unfortunately was disqualified.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 30 September, all three return for Day 4 all swimming the 50m Backstroke

🏊 NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 3 HEATS

Finals places for Noah and Amelia, with Giselle first reserve after this morning’s racing.

Noah Lomas – Swim Rotorua
200m Backstroke: 2:11.11 – 6th in the 15-year age group Qualified for tonight’s finals.

Giselle Yee – Swim Rotorua
200m Backstroke: 2:25.97 – 7th in the 14-year age group and First reserve for tonight’s finals.

Amelia Steiner -
• 200m Backstroke: 2:32.91 – (timed final for Multi-Class) another Australian Age record
• 100m Butterfly Multi-Class: 1:18.84 qualifying for tonight’s final.

Well done to all three! Tonight’s finals session starts at 5pm, with Noah’s 200m Backstroke and Amelia’s 100m Butterfly Multi-Class to follow.

We’ll also be keeping an eye on Giselle’s reserve spot.

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 2 HEATS

Bronze for Noah and two finals for Amelia this morning!

Noah Lomas – Swim Rotorua
• 50m Butterfly: 26.00 – bronze in the 15-year age group.
• 100m Freestyle: 53.53 – 10th in the 15-year age group.

Amelia Steiner –
• 400m Freestyle Multi-Class: 4:52.37 – 1st in the heats & with Final swim tonight. This was Amelia's 2nd Australian Age S19 Record. (to be ratified)
• 50m Butterfly Multi-Class: 32.42 – 2nd in the heats on multi-class points, qualifying for the final.

Well done, Noah and Amelia, and good luck tonight!

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 1 FINALS

Amelia Steiner – representing her Australian club finished first in the women’s 100m Backstroke Multi-Class final, clocking 1:10.08

Her swim sets a new unofficial S19 Australian age record, taking 1.97 seconds off the previous mark of 1:12.05. Congratulations, Amelia!

Noah Lomas –
Noah clocked 58.79 in the men’s 100m Backstroke C final, finishing 9th in the C final and 29th overall.

Well done, Amelia and Noah.

Tomorrow: Day 2, Session 3 – Monday 28 September

• Noah: 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly.
• Amelia: 400m Freestyle Multi-Class and 50m Butterfly Multi-Class.

NZ SHORT COURSE CHAMPS – DAY 1 MORNING HEATS
Christchurch

We’re under way! Noah, Giselle and Amelia have completed their opening swims at the 2026 New Zealand Short Course Championships.

Noah Lomas – Swim Rotorua
100m Backstroke: 58.73, 3rd in the 15-year age group and through to tonight’s C final.
100m Individual Medley: 1:01.83, 11th in the 15-year age group.

Giselle Yee – Swim Rotorua
100m Backstroke: 1:08.96 Personal best, placing 10th in the 14-year age group.

Amelia Steiner
100m Backstroke Multi-Class: 1:12.96, earning the highest points score in the heats. Amelia is competing as a visitor and is through to tonight’s final.

Well done to all three on getting the meet started.

Good luck to Noah and Amelia on again in the finals session from 5pm.

We’re cheering on Noah Lomas, Giselle Yee and Amelia Steiner in Christchurch, with racing running from 27 September to 1 October.

All three hit the water tomorrow to kick off their competition:

Noah Lomas: 100m Backstroke & 100m Individual Medley

Giselle Yee: 100m Backstroke

Amelia Steiner: 100m Backstroke — representing her Australian club.

15 Swim Rotorua swimmers attended the 1st Classic series meet held in Greerton.

It was awesome to see many orange caps in the pool and super exciting to have 8 new racers join the team: Ruah, Jane, Joshua, Arya, Essie, Trizea, Carter and Cara along with Chris, Sam, Alek, India, Esther, Monique and Rebecca made up a great team.
