🏉 FIORDLAND FERNS ROUND UP 🏉

The final round of the girls' competition was a double header, with the Ferns playing James Hargest College and then Southland Girls' High School back to back.

Game one was against a strong James Hargest side with good numbers and some big ball carriers. The Ferns tackled well and pinched plenty of ball, but couldn't string enough runners together to get points on the board.

Game two was against Southland Girls. We let them steal and dominate possession in the first half, and they scored a couple of tries. After a stern halftime chat from the coaches, the Ferns played the second half the way they've been building towards for weeks. They tackled well, contested every ruck, held good structure and supported each other with ball in hand. The result was some brilliant tries! 💪 The girls finally realised size isn't everything, and used their fitness and numbers to lift the speed of the game and take the momentum.

🏉 From Te Anau to Southland! 🏉

A huge congratulations to George Williams, Lochlan Shefford and Sam Scott, who have represented Southland this season.

And a special mention to Logan Porteous, another Te Anau local lad who attends Southland Boys’ High School, who represented Northern in the Southland Country Under 14s.

It’s pretty special seeing our local boys take the next step and pull on the Southland jersey. Their selection is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and effort they’ve put in throughout the season.

We’re incredibly proud of you all and hope you enjoyed the experience. 👏🏉

Well done, boys - you’ve done yourselves and Te Anau proud! 💚💛

A big thanks to everyone who came along to our working bee last Sunday 👏

We got through a huge amount done in record time thanks to all the extra hands.

The club is looking much tidier and ready for the off season events and then 2027 rugby season. We even had a few kids who needed a good water blasting along the way! 😂

Thanks again to everyone who gave up their time to help out! much appreciated!

📅 Thursday 3rd September
🕔 5pm
📍 Te Anau Rugby Clubrooms

Players, parents and supporters all welcome 💚💛

🏉 Fantastic win for the Ferns! Extra special being our last home game, and the supporters were treated to a brilliant game of rugby.

The girls clicked on attack with line breaks, good support and sharp passing. But it was their defense that won the game: strong first-up tackles, and every time the opposition made a break they ran them down and turned the ball over.

We had 6 out with the flu, hopefully all back soon so we're at full strength for the last tournament at Oreti Park.

Big thanks to Greg Taylor for reffing 👏 Both teams learned heaps with his good explanations on the decisions.
