We are a group of volunteers looking after the well-being and protection of the Little Penguins or K
The penguins come onto the beach to return to their nests to feed their young some time after dark. Time varies with the season, number of penguins varies nightly.

Thank you to a visitor to the penguins for these great photos. Penguins are coming in not too far after 7pm at the moment. Just chat to one of our lovely volunteers in the yellow vests, if you have some questions. Enjoy.
Hi everyone. The 2026 breeding season has started early. We have penguin chicks starting to get a little adventurous around the colony. It's great to see all the visitors from NZ, and all over the world coming to see the penguins.
We would like to remind everyone to keep off the beach near the rocks. The penguins use this area to walk back from the sea to their nests.
Also a reminder that it is NOT OK to go on the beach later at night to take photos. The cameras have picked up several people getting far too close. Please be RESPECTFUL.

Oh golly, a Leopard seal having a swim in the surf near the penguins. Thanks to Andy for filming this. Let's hope it was just a look.

Thank you very much to Ymke for sending us these beautiful photos of the Little blue penguins. This one looks very healthy and its colour is great. Just a reminder that it is the end of the season for the penguins. We look forward to seeing them coming back in the Spring.
