UNDER COSNTRUCTION
A Rushton Architects original is getting a fresh new chapter.

The home we designed from the ground up is now being thoughtfully renovated by Wilson Building Timaru for its new owner, blending the integrity of the original design with modern updates.

Its rewarding to see our work evolve while staying true to its architectural roots.

SITE ACCESS

Most building sites are readily accessible, but not all.
So as a bit of Friday fun, here are a few shots of accessing some of the more remote project building sites we have recently visited.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
transportable housing

For many years Rushton Architects have been working with the Southland Institute of Technology on transportable houses that are constructed by their Carpentry Students as a part of their course.

While the designs have evolved into various iterations, at the core of the designs is the giving the students experience with both pre-framed and onsite-framed elements. For example, the roof structure is a mix of both trussed and skillion framed elements.

A recent visit to Invercargill gave an opportunity for us to see the houses nearing completion.

PROJECT UPDATE
Geraldine High School

The studio is currently working on the consent documentation for the refurbishment of an eight-classroom block at Geraldine High School.

Currently the block has a roof of linking gable forms with internal gutters. This is to be replaced with a single gable running east-west to eliminate water ingress while utilizing existing concrete floor and wall elements.

PROJECT UPDATE
Student Accommodation

The studio is currently working on consent documentation for additional student accommodation for the Southland Institute of Technology (SIT) at their Telford Farm Training site near Balclutha.

Four transportable accommodation buildings are to be constructed by the Invercargill based SIT Carpentry Students and then transported to the Telford site.

The Telford Campus began as a farm training institute 1964 and became part of Southland Institute of Technology in 2019. Telford has dairy, sheep, beef and deer farms over an area of 670ha.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Waituna Lagoon Cultural Centre
Whakamana te Waituna Trust

Rushton Architects has been working with the Southern Institute of Technology for many years providing Architects services for the Transportable Homes constructed by the Carpentry Students. Along the way there have been the occasional one-off designs projects.

This project is a one of them, designed to accommodate the Waituna Lagoon Cultural Centre for the Whakamana te Waituna Trust.

The building was constructed by the SIT students in Invercargill and transported to site. The access ramp, stairs, decking and Porch are currently being constructed on-site.

We took the opportunity last week to pop in while down in Southland for other projects.
