Food Rescue Aoraki
Established January 2024, Food Rescue Aoraki (FRA) emerged from the former Foodbank Aotearoa.
Our mission is to combat hunger and food waste in the Mid-South Canterbury region by rescuing surplus food that otherwise would have gone to landfill.

We had a surprise visit from Jess and Kai who were leaving Timaru. They were headed back home to Newcastle, NSW after living in NZ for a while. They emptied their pantry and rather than throw it all into the rubbish bins, they decided to donate their pantry to us.
Grocery items will be distributed and baking products will go to a group that make cakes and muffins for their group.
As long as the food is within time dates and unopened, we are happy to accept pantry items as foodbanks are seeing more and more people coming through seeking food relief.
Thanks again to Jess and Kai for their thoughtfulness.

It is not just people that we help, we also provide food for our feathered friends. Rescued bird food is donated to Zena's South Canterbury Bird Rescue. Zena rescues birds who are sick or injured and cares for them until they a ready to be released back into the wild.
She is doing a great job and we are happy to support her work in bird rescue.

Food Rescue Aoraki welcomes all donations of foodstuffs that might otherwise be sent to landfill. We check use by and best before dates to ensure freshness but some items are often thrown out on the day but are still in good condition if used that same day.
We received a load of fresh salads via Te Aitaraki who had more than than they could distribute.
This sharing of excess kai helps get donations out across to everyone in need in our area.
Thank you for sharing.
