Peru Adventure Travel Experts since 1985. Looking for safe, responsible Peru Adventure? We will continue to strive for change, to strive to improve.

We have always done what we loved- this was never about making money- it was always about allowing us to spend more time on the water and in the mountains. As we grew we realised we had a responsibility to protect the places we travel through and a responsibility to operate as safely as possible. By continually trying to excel we encourage other local operators to raise their standards too. the day you stop, you might as well give up.

Last Friday, as part of our Positive Impact Fund, the Amazonas Explorer team collected around five tonnes of rubbish from the main road out of Cusco, between Yuncaypata and Abra Corao.

Many thanks to Gerencia de Gestión Ambiental - Municipalidad del Cusco for helping with the clean-up.

The final two days of the Salkantay get you to Llaqtapata with a view of Machu Picchu, before hiking to the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) and doing a tour of Machu Picchu.

The third day of the Salkantay is one of the best, as you get close to the glaciers and hike down into the cloud forest and high jungle in a single day.

This is what the first two days of the Salkantay trek look like: spectacular scenery, white peaks, and a visit to Humantay Lake before the crowds arrive. This is not an easy trek, but it is incredibly rewarding.
