Punch had to grow, learn the language of macaques, understand their rules, find his place, and become more independent.
And while that journey has taken him farther from those caring hands, the bond they built never simply disappeared.
And perhaps that's why, during this long construction period, we dearly miss seeing Shikano and Miyakoshi with Punch.
Monkey Mountain is only one part of the zoo. While it’s temporarily closed for renovation, the rest of Ichikawa Zoo remains open as usual.
There are still plenty of animals, exhibits, and things to see and enjoy during this period.

Perhaps some of what Punch has faced isn’t rejection... it’s simply the reality of entering a social world where he was the newcomer.
So he’s slowly learning the rules, earning his place, and finding his own way to belong.

SOME BONDS BECOME PART OF WHO WE ARE💖
Punch may be growing stronger and more independent, but there will always be a quiet familiarity in those arms...
Almost 2 million people have watched this story of Punch becoming the one he needed.
He knows what it feels like to need someone and not have them. Yet somehow, he learned to become that someone for another little one.
Maybe many people relate to the irony that even though he didn’t grow up receiving the love and acceptance he deserved...often being pushed away—he chose to give the exact opposite to the baby monkeys. He became gentle, affectionate, and caring toward them.

They may not be by Punch's side every moment, but clearly, caring for Punch is still very much a part of them...

Of course, we can’t blame the zoo, and even more so, the zookeepers. They were simply showing Punch the love, warmth, and compassion he needed. How could they not? They cared deeply for him.

And when Punch settles into those familiar arms, it’s a quiet echo that before he learned where he belonged, he already knew what love felt like.
