Concepcion, Iloilo embraces new chapter in community resilience through KALAHI-CIDSS Panahon ng Pagkilos: PCRP Municipal Orientation
From being the birthplace of Community-Driven Development in Western Visayas to becoming a pilot municipality for a new resilience-focused initiative, Concepcion once again finds itself at the forefront of community transformation.
The Municipality of Concepcion successfully conducted its Municipal Orientation under the Panahon ng Pagkilos: Philippine Community Resilience Project (PCRP), marking a significant milestone in implementing Stage 1 of the Community Resilience Implementation Process (CRIP).
The activity was organized by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa KahirapanโComprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Area Coordinating Team (ACT) headed by Area Coordinator Rogelio Bonifacio Jr., bringing together local leaders, barangay officials, key stakeholders and members of the Municipal Resilience Team (MResT) to learn about the project's objectives and their roles in building resilient communities.
Leading the Local Government Unit delegation were Mayor Millard Villanueva and Vice Mayor Jovelyn Estrada, who expressed gratitude to KALAHI-CIDSS for the development gains that the municipality has achieved through the years.
Villanueva acknowledged the program's contribution to improving communities across both mainland and island barangays and encouraged barangay captains and local officials to extend the same level of support to the new KALAHI-CIDSS modality.
"We have seen how KALAHI-CIDSS transformed communities in Concepcion. As we begin this new journey through the Panahon ng Pagkilos: PCRP, I encourage everyone to continue working together and support the program for the benefit of our people," the mayor said.
Also present during the orientation was Regional Program Manager and Assistant Regional Director for Operations (ARDO) Katherine Joy M. Lamprea, who recognized Concepcion's enduring legacy in advancing community-driven development.
"Concepcion, Iloilo, is among the municipalities identified for the implementation of the PCRP in Western Visayas, making the LGU's participation a significant step toward strengthening community resilience and sustainable local development," Lamprea emphasized.
She also highlighted the municipality's role as one of the pioneering KALAHI-CIDSS areas in the region, noting that its experience and commitment to community participation continue to serve as a model for other local government units.
Providing technical support during the activity were Community Development Officer IV and Social Development Unit Chief Elizabeth Ferraris and PDO III-Social Safeguards Officer Flora Mae Palencia, who assisted participants and reinforced the importance of active collaboration among stakeholders throughout the implementation process.
As Concepcion embarks on another chapter of community empowerment, the Municipal Orientation served not only as an introduction to the Panahon ng Pagkilos: PCRP but also as a reaffirmation of the municipality's commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities through collective action.
