PLAI - WVRLC

The PLAI–WVRLC stands in solidarity with the Philippine library and information science community in mourning the passing of Dr. Juan C. Buenrostro, Jr., whose lifelong contributions helped shape and strengthen the field of Philippine librarianship.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Buenrostro dedicated himself to advancing the library and information science profession through teaching, research, authorship, and committed professional service. Through his publications and scholarly works, he became a source of guidance and inspiration to generations of Filipino librarians and Library and Information Science students across the country.
Among his many notable publications are Abstracting and Indexing Made Easy, The Management of Special Libraries in the Philippines, More Than Books: Perspectives on the Management of Information Resources and Services in Libraries, and several volumes of The Complete Reviewer for Librarians’ Licensure Examination, among others. These works have served as valuable references that supported the academic and professional growth of students, educators, and librarians. His reviewer books, in particular, became indispensable resources that helped numerous aspiring librarians successfully pass the Librarian Licensure Examination over the years.
Beyond his scholarly achievements, Dr. Buenrostro will be remembered for his dedication to librarianship, passion for learning, and lasting influence on the Philippine LIS community. His legacy will continue to inspire present and future generations of Filipino information professionals.
In solidarity with his family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire Philippine library community, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers during this time of mourning.
May his meaningful life of service and dedication always be remembered.

𝗜𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 | 𝗠𝗢𝗔 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. - Western Visayas Region Librarians Council (PLAI-WVRLC), in partnership with ISAT University and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Region Office 6, successfully marked the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for the Project LIBRO. This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to promoting literacy, access to information, and transformative library services with the community. Together, we continue to build bridges of knowledge, empowerment, and inclusive learning.

𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | 𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬𝗔 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – Western Visayas Region Librarians Council (PLAI-WVRLC) in partnership with the City Government of Iloilo, through the Iloilo City Public Library, and the Department of Education – Division of Iloilo City for the ISTORYA FEST 2026 initiated by the Iloilo City Public Library.

With the inspiring theme, “Real Stories, Real Heroes: Discover How Everyday Heroes Keep Us Safe, Informed, and Resilient,” the event highlights the power of storytelling in shaping informed, empowered, and resilient communities.

Today, PLAI-WVRLC proudly visited A. Mabini Elementary School in support of this meaningful initiative. The activity aimed to promote literacy, celebrate real-life heroes, and strengthen partnerships among libraries, schools, and the local government in fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning. The first school to visit for this activity last February 20, 2026.

PLAI–Western Visayas Librarians Council mourns the loss of our fellow librarian, Mrs. Ma. Leonora Flame last January 24, 2026. She is a loving mentor, gentle leader, and devoted knowledge provider.

Her passion for service, warm presence, and sincere care for others touched countless lives in our library community. She leaves behind not only a legacy of professionalism, but also of kindness and compassion that will never be forgotten.

We join her family and loved ones in prayer as we honor a life beautifully lived in service to knowledge and humanity.
