PARKAM expresses its serious concern regarding the manner in which the 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱 amidst the prevailing adverse weather conditions in Indang.

The safety of students must never be treated as an afterthought. The call to “stay safe” carries little to no meaning if the necessary decisions and actions to ensure that safety are delayed.

The 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 likewise contributed to confusion among students. With unclear and conflicting information circulating, 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀. Instead of providing immediate clarity, the situation created further uncertainty for students who were simply seeking reliable information about whether they should proceed to campus.

PARKAM recognizes that decisions concerning class suspensions may involve various considerations and that authorities must exercise proper judgment. However, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Authorities must be proactive, especially when weather conditions may pose risks to students traveling to and from campus.

We therefore call upon the 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to strengthen their coordination and communication during adverse weather conditions. Decisions on class suspensions must be timely, proactive, and centered on student safety and welfare, not delayed until students are already exposed to unnecessary risks.

𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸. “Stay safe” means little when the actions needed to keep students safe come too late.

Sa halip na palakasin ang sektor na humuhubog sa susunod na henerasyon, patuloy na 𝙣𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙪𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙘𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙨 (𝙎𝙐𝘾𝙨).

Kapag binawasan ang pondo ng isang unibersidad, malilimitahan din ang kakayahan nitong magbigay ng sapat na pasilidad, kagamitan, g**o, serbisyo, at iba pang pangangailangan para sa maayos na pagkatuto. Marami ring estudyante sa mga SUCs ang napipilitang gumastos ng libo-libo para sa kanilang mga asignatura, RLE, at iba pang academic requirements.

Ang bawat bawas sa budget ay katumbas ng 𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙤, 𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙜𝙞𝙝𝙖𝙣, at 𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙥 𝙣𝙖 𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙠𝙖𝙞𝙩. Kung tunay na kinabukasan ng bayan ang kabataan, ang edukasyon ang dapat unang pinoprotektahan, hindi ang unang kinakaltasan!
