NSTP students participate in a seminar-forum on environmental challenges for youth initiatives

The seminar-forum on “Environmental Challenges and Climate Issues: Opportunities for Collaborative Action in Southern Leyte” was conducted to strengthen awareness of pressing environmental concerns and encourage collaborative action toward resilient and sustainable communities.

The program opened with remarks from Rhondelou Uy, LGOO II of DILG–Southern Leyte, followed by an introduction of the guest speakers by Maria Carmela B. Gono, LPT, NSTP Instructor.

Reyma Chael S. Balili, Technical Staff of PENRMO, discussed pressing environmental concerns, including global warming, flash floods, extreme typhoons, haze and wildfires, and insufficient power supply.

Easter Frances Advincula, President of Youth for Community Resilience, focused on ecological justice, highlighting the challenges posed by a culture of consumption, exploitative systems, and the loss of environmental reverence, while emphasizing the youth's vital role in fostering resilience.

Meanwhile, Cristita Clava of the Provincial Agricultural Services Office (PAGSO) highlighted agriculture as a backbone of the economy, discussing youth participation, agricultural development programs, and opportunities in the sector, including the 4-H framework: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.

The activity concluded with the closing remarks of Xianne Micha Cams Fernandez, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility, youth participation, and collaborative action in addressing environmental and climate challenges and building a more sustainable future for Southern Leyte.

NSTP students participate in a seminar-forum for youth awareness and advocacy for peace and safety

NSTP students actively participated in the “Enabling Youth as Advocates for Peace Against Illegal Drugs” Seminar-Forum, which aimed to strengthen youth awareness and involvement in promoting peace, safety, and well-being in the community. This initiative is in coordination and partnership with DILG-Southern Leyte's Sub-Regional Local Governance Resource Center - Multi-Stakeholders Advisory Council (LGRC-MSAC). Vincent Sy of DILG-Southern Leyte was present at the activity.

Maria Carmela Gono, NSTP Council Assistant Adviser, opened the activity with a welcome message. The seminar featured discussions from representatives of various government agencies. PDEA IAV Christine Dumapias discussed drug abuse and substance use, emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention among the youth. PNP P/CPT. Pepito J. Tabios tackled road safety measures and responsible practices to help prevent road-related incidents.

Meanwhile, DILG HRMO I Jergin Stefan Paler-Javier highlighted the importance of caring for one’s mental health and maintaining overall well-being. Dr. Gemar Mori, NSTP Director, closed the program by encouraging students to promote peace, engage in mental health initiatives for peers, and advocate against illegal drugs. Marianne Doron and Jane Mesias hosted the program.

Through the seminar-forum, NSTP students gained valuable knowledge that can guide them in becoming more informed, responsible, and active advocates for peace and safety in their communities.

NSTP students engage with CSOs and DILG-Southern Leyte on good local governance

NSTP students and faculty members gathered at the school's Alumni Gymnasium for the Seminar-Forum on Civil Society and Good Local Governance, in partnership with DILG-Southern Leyte's Sub-Regional Local Governance Resource Center - Multi-Stakeholders Advisory Council (LGRC-MSAC). This educational initiative strengthened participants' understanding of responsible citizenship, participatory governance, and community engagement. Maria Carmela Gono, LPT, introduced the speakers while Lester Alaras and Jane Mesias hosted. The program started with the Opening Remarks delivered by Zennia Orais, MPA, setting the tone for a meaningful discussion on collaborative governance.

The seminar featured distinguished resource speakers who shared their expertise on key governance issues:

Dr. Jerome Paler, President of Gawad Kalinga, discussed the roles of civil society organizations and the vital partnership among the public sector, civil society, and the private sector in advancing good governance.

Angel Lacaba, MBA, Local Government Operations Officer of DILG-Southern Leyte, explained the concept of local government and highlighted local government supervision, peace and order, public safety, and the significant role of the youth in promoting good governance.

Dr. Gemar B. Mori, NSTP and CM - Community Engagement Services Director and G-Watch Southern Leyte Core Team Adviser, presented the initiatives and contributions of G-Watch in Southern Leyte over the years and how G-Watch is formally introduced through NSTP and on-the-job training of graduating BA Political Science students in 2023 until now.

Xianne Cams Micha Fernandez, G-Watch Southern Leyte Coordinator, emphasized citizen participation and accountability through G-Watch Southern Leyte's PRO-Health and TPA-Enabled Health Units.

The activity concluded with the Closing Remarks delivered by Jonathan L. Biluan, LPT, encouraging participants to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and active civic participation in their respective communities. Shiela Javier, LGOO IV, and Vincent Sy of DILG-Southern Leyte were also present at the activity.

This seminar reinforces the NSTP's commitment to developing socially responsible, community-oriented, and civically engaged students who actively contribute to nation-building.

The outgoing members of the NSTP Council of The College of Maasin successfully facilitated an Orientation and Capacity Building and Leadership Development for the newly appointed NSTP Council members. The program ensures a smooth leadership transition by equipping the incoming officers with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to carry out their responsibilities effectively. Rycille Tingcoy, NSTP General President, spearheads the activities and hosted the program.

The activity featured one-on-one leadership coaching, action planning, experience-sharing, and team-building sessions designed to strengthen collaboration, commitment, and servant leadership among the new members of the NSTP Council.

NSTP Instructor and Assistant NSTP Council adviser Maria Carmela Gono welcomed the participants with a message. To conclude the initiative, Dr. Gemar B. Mori, the NSTP Director and Council adviser, challenged the incoming NSTP General Officers to do more and be better so CM can continue soaring higher for the greater good.

As a new chapter begins, the facilitators remind the newly elected General Officers to lead with integrity, inspire through service, and remain committed to making a meaningful impact in the school and the community.

NSTP Instructor participates in CHEDRO VIII Convention for NSTP implementers and educators

NSTP Instructor Maria Carmela Gono participated in the Regional NSTP Forum and Capacity Building for Higher Education Institutions in Region VIII at Eastern Visayas State University - Graduate School Function Hall, Tacloban City. She was joined by 102 NSTP Directors, Coordinators, and Educators in the entire region.

Important updates and concerns were discussed by various agencies and organizations that partner with CHEDRO VIII in NSTP implementation. The participation of Ms. Gono serves as a testament to the school's NSTP implementation, which is compliant with and adaptive to the mandates of the law and based on the needs of the students and communities.

The National Service Training Program (NSTP), through the CM - Community Engagement Services (CES) Office, successfully conducted its orientation for first-year students enrolled in BS Nursing, BS Business Administration, BS Information Technology, BS Accountancy, BA Political Science, B Secondary Education, and B Elementary Education.

The orientation began with an introduction to the NSTP as one of the approaches to CES under service-learning by the CES and NSTP Director, Dr. Gemar B. Mori, who welcomed the students, presented the program's vision, mission, and goals, and explained the students' role in fostering civic responsibility and community development.

Following this, Edrielle Lastra, Leader of the Volunteer Group of Students (VGS), introduced the organization's volunteer opportunities, encouraging students to participate in meaningful community service initiatives actively.

Former NSTP President Rycille Pearl Tingcoy then presented the accomplishment report, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the previous NSTP students. The report showcased numerous successful projects and initiatives that made a positive and lasting impact on the community.

The orientation also included the presentation of the financial report for the previous academic year by Mary Viance Cabangal, promoting transparency and accountability in the program's operations.

The orientation served as an inspiring introduction for the new batch of students, encouraging them to embrace the values of leadership, volunteerism, and service as they begin their NSTP journey.

📢 ATTENTION ALL INCOMING NSTP FRESHMEN 📢

The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office warmly welcomes all incoming first-year students to the General Orientation. This orientation aims to introduce students to the objectives of NSTP, its program components, course requirements, and the vital role of every student in promoting civic consciousness, leadership, volunteerism, and community service.

All enrolled NSTP first-year students are mandated to attend, as important announcements, guidelines, and program information will be discussed. Please arrive on time and observe proper decorum throughout the orientation.

We look forward to welcoming you as you begin your NSTP journey. Together, let us build a community of responsible, compassionate, and service-oriented individuals.
